Mark Ruffalo is coming back as Bruce Banner in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, according to Nexus Point News. This will not just be a quick appearance; Ruffalo will have a major role in the movie. It’s not clear yet if he’ll turn into the Hulk or stay in human form, but either way, he’s going to be important to the story.

The last time fans saw Ruffalo’s Banner was in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law on Disney+. In that show, a car crash caused his cousin, Jennifer Walters, to get Hulk powers after being exposed to his blood. Banner helped train her and later showed up with his son, Skaar, who was born on the planet Sakaar.

At that point, he was still using his “Professor Hulk” form—a mix of Banner’s brain and the Hulk’s body. It’s not yet known whether he’ll use that form or the more wild “Savage Hulk” in the new movie. Still, even as just Bruce Banner, he could help Peter Parker as a science mentor.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be the fourth movie in the MCU’s Spider-Man series. It will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.

Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker, and Zendaya and Jacob Batalon will come back in smaller roles. Actor Michael Mando, who played Mac Gargan in Spider-Man: Homecoming, may also return, though his deal hasn’t been confirmed. Sadie Sink and Liza Colon-Zayas have been cast in mystery roles.

Filming is expected to start in July 2025 in London and wrap in the fall. The movie will be released by Sony Pictures on July 31, 2026, as part of Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
