Mark Wahlberg has been a household name in Hollywood since his breakout role in the 1997 film Boogie Nights. Since that success, he has moved into the world of big blockbusters like The Departed and The Fighter.

While also showing he can be funny in movies like Ted and The Other Guys. Even though he has played many different types of characters, it turns out his favorite movie is a very dark classic that might surprise some of his fans.

In a book titled You Gotta See This, Wahlberg was asked to pick his absolute favorite film, and he kept his answer very short by saying that Taxi Driver really does it for him. However, he did not seem very interested in explaining why he chose it.

The book mentioned that he acted like he almost wanted to take the answer back as soon as he said it. When the interviewer tried to get him to say more, Wahlberg just laughed and said that explaining it would probably give people way too much insight into his own twisted mind.

It is possible that the actor feels a connection to the character of Travis Bickle, played by Robert De Niro. Taxi Driver came out in 1976 and was directed by Martin Scorsese and written by Paul Schrader.

The story is about a veteran who is struggling with his mental health and takes a night job as a taxi driver in New York City. The film is famous for its “dream-like” feel, which Scorsese created with the help of cinematographer Michael Chapman to show how the main character was slowly losing touch with reality.

The movie was a massive hit with critics, winning the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival and getting four Oscar nominations. This included a Best Actor nod for De Niro and a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Jodie Foster, who was only fourteen years old at the time.

Despite some controversy over the violence and Foster’s young age, the film has remained one of the most respected movies in history. For Wahlberg, it clearly remains the gold standard for cinema, even if he prefers to keep his reasons for loving it a secret.

As we move into early 2026, Mark Wahlberg is keeping just as busy with his career as he is with his favorite movies. He is currently getting ready for the release of The Family Plan 2 on Apple TV+, which is set to premiere this year.

This sequel sees him returning as a former assassin who has to protect his family during a vacation in Europe, and it will feature Game of Thrones star Kit Harington as his new rival. He also starred in a crime thriller called Play Dirty, directed by Shane Black, where he plays a professional thief named Parker.

Wahlberg isn’t just sticking to action and comedy this year, as he is also starring in a historical drama called By Any Means. In this film, he plays a notorious mafia hitman who ends up working with a young FBI agent, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, to solve a series of murders from the 1960s.

Do you think Mark Wahlberg’s “twisted mind” comment means he wants to play a dark, gritty character like Travis Bickle in one of his upcoming movies? Share your thoughts in the comments!
