Marlon Wayans Teases ‘Scary Movie 6’ Will “Cancel the Cancel Culture”
Marlon Wayans is making it clear that Scary Movie 6 is not going to play it safe.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Wayans spoke about the new film and what fans can expect. He said the goal is simple. He wants to bring back bold comedy and push back against what he sees as limits on jokes.
“What we’re trying to do is bring back laughter,” he said. “This is about bringing back comedy the way it used to be. And I think the only way to do it is you have to cancel the cancel culture.”
Wayans explained that the new movie will not hold back. He said the franchise has always made fun of everyone, and that will not change now. “We’re gonna do what we always do. We’re gonna make fun of everybody because we’re equal opportunity offenders,” he said. He added that their style of humor comes from how they were raised and the way their family jokes with each other.

The trailer for the film already shows that tone. It includes jokes about pronouns, politics and so-called safe spaces. One scene even flashes the words, “There are no safe spaces,” making the message direct. Wayans believes this kind of comedy opens up conversation instead of shutting it down.
He said the film speaks to more than one age group. “This movie is multi-generational. It’s a conversation comedically that is needed, that needs to be had from our generation down to Gen, what is it?” he said before adding, “Gen Alpha. And it’s all inclusive.”
Wayans also shared that making the movie felt fun and free. “We laughed all the way through,” he said. He noted that the cast was allowed to improvise and enjoy themselves on set. According to him, that freedom shows in the final cut.
The new film also marks a reunion with original cast members like Anna Faris and Regina Hall. Wayans said bringing the team back together was important. He wants the movie to feel like the early 2000s again, when the first films were box office hits and known for pushing boundaries.
For Wayans, this is not just about another sequel. He sees it as a response to the current culture. He believes comedy should not be limited by fear of backlash. Whether audiences agree or not, he is standing by that view and building the movie around it.
Scary Movie 6 is set to hit theaters on June 5. If Wayans gets his way, it will spark laughs and debate at the same time.
