Marlon Wayans Will Bring Back Fan-Favorite Character in ‘Scary Movie 6’
The Wayans Brothers are returning to the franchise that made them famous. Marlon Wayans confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that he will reprise his role as Shorty in Scary Movie 6, the beloved character from the first two films.
This marks the first time the original creators have been directly involved in the series since Scary Movie 2 in 2001.
Marlon will join Anna Faris and Regina Hall, who also starred in the first two movies, making the new installment a true nod to the early 2000s.
“We have plans to bring a few more back,” Wayans told EW. He also noted, “I think you have to acknowledge how comedy has changed. Not just horror has changed, but films have changed, the audience has changed, the world has shifted. I think the way to do that is to make the generational gap part of the conversation. That’s how we constructed the movie so we could talk about it all.” He said.
Michael Tiddes is directing Scary Movie 6, which is scheduled to hit theaters on June 12, 2026. Rick Alvarez is writing and producing alongside the Wayans Brothers.
The original Scary Movie premiered in 2000, parodying popular horror films of the time like Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and The Blair Witch Project.
The film earned $278 million worldwide and launched a franchise of horror spoofs, releasing five sequels between 2000 and 2013. Only the first two installments were created by the Wayans Brothers, so this new movie represents their official return after more than two decades.
This news is exciting for fans who grew up watching the original films. Bringing back Marlon Wayans and other familiar faces promises nostalgia while updating the comedy for a modern audience. It looks like Scary Movie 6 could be a fun mix of old-school laughs and contemporary humor.
