‘Marshals’ Season 2 Teaser Puts Kayce Dutton Right Back In The Family Crosshairs
The ‘Yellowstone’ universe has spent the better part of two years proving that the Dutton name refuses to stay buried in Montana soil. Every spinoff so far has leaned into that same idea, that legacy and violence travel together no matter which sibling gets the spotlight, and ‘Marshals’ has become the loudest proof of that theory yet.
Luke Grimes’ Kayce Dutton left the ranch behind at the end of ‘Yellowstone’, trading cattle for a badge after losing his wife Monica and taking on the job of raising his son Tate alone. The CBS sequel series picked up shortly after that finale, with Kayce joining the U.S. Marshals on the invitation of his former Navy SEAL team leader while still reeling from Monica’s death. It was a fresh start built on shaky ground from the very first episode.
Now that ground is shaking again. ScreenRant confirmed the arrival of the first ‘Marshals’ season 2 teaser, and the footage puts Kayce right back in the middle of danger while forcing him to carry the emotional weight of his past. The clip itself was released by People, showing armed men confronting Kayce at his home on East Camp before he takes them down in a tense, violent burst.
The teaser leans hard into that showdown, framing it as a moment where Kayce has to reflect on the Dutton family legacy and the violence baked into it, even as he tries to build something new for Tate. It is a callback to the kind of visceral, close-quarters chaos that defined ‘Yellowstone’ at its rawest, now filtered through a procedural lens.
Turnaround on this footage has been fast by network television standards. ‘Marshals’ was created by Spencer Hudnut and shifted the franchise into a more modern procedural shape, with Montana once again turning land, grief, power and family loyalty into a loaded weapon. Season 2 is being produced by Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios, with filming now underway in Park City, Utah, for episodes set to air this fall. Costar Logan Marshall-Green even confirmed to ScreenRant that shooting had begun that same week, calling the upcoming episodes an “even better season” than the debut run.
The numbers explain why CBS moved so quickly. Marshals was renewed for a second season after just two episodes had aired, with the network calling it the most-watched series premiere since ‘Young Sheldon’ in 2017, and the show’s first episode became CBS’s most-streamed episode ever on Paramount+. Season 1 averaged 20.4 million multiplatform viewers across its first eight episodes.
That success has also fueled bigger questions about how far the Dutton reunion could go. With Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser’s ‘Dutton Ranch’ now airing on Paramount+, showrunner Hudnut told THR a crossover between Beth, Rip and Kayce would be “pretty cool” if the two productions could ever line up their schedules. Whether or not that happens, the new teaser makes clear that Kayce’s fight to outrun his family’s history is far from over.
