Martin Scorsese Surprises Fans with a Role in ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ – Trailer Reveals Who He Is Playing
Fans got a big surprise in the new trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu. The Lucasfilm film, the first Star Wars movie in seven years, features Pedro Pascal as the bounty hunter and, of course, Grogu, also known as Baby Yoda. But many viewers paused when they heard a familiar voice in the first part of the trailer. It’s none other than legendary director Martin Scorsese.
Scorsese voices an Ardennian, a four-armed, furry alien who runs a store and has a brief but funny encounter with Mando, who is looking for information about one of the Hutts. This isn’t the first time Scorsese has done voice work. Fans might remember him as the anxious pufferfish in Shark Tale back in 2004.

Reaction online has been mostly positive. Some fans felt the previous teaser and a Super Bowl clip didn’t excite them, but the new trailer seems to have changed minds. One fan on Reddit wrote, “Honestly this trailer actually did get me pretty hyped to see it. Seems like it’s going to be a really fun Star Wars movie and I think that’s really what Star Wars needs right now.”
The movie is aiming for a more family-friendly feel. That has caused some older Star Wars fans to raise an eyebrow, but it’s also seen as a smart way to bring younger viewers into theaters.
One parent shared, “This is the first new SW theatrical release my kids are old enough to see in cinemas, so I’m excited for it. Worst case, it will feel like a long episode of the TV show, which means it will still likely be a good time. I’m anticipating a fun popcorn flick, and if it’s more than that, that’s a bonus.”
The Mandalorian and Grogu is directed by Jon Favreau, who has a history of revitalizing franchises, from launching the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Iron Man to bringing Star Wars to screens with the 2019 TV series The Mandalorian. The movie is set to hit theaters on May 22.
Having Scorsese in the cast adds a fun, unexpected twist, and the family-friendly approach could be just what Star Wars needs to attract a new generation. What do you think? Will this film be a hit with both kids and longtime fans? Share your thoughts in the comments.
