‘Marty Supreme’ Starring Timothée Chalamet Receives Rave Reviews, Scores High on Rotten Tomatoes

Josh Safdie’s new film, Marty Supreme, is making waves even before its wide release. The American sports comedy-drama, produced and directed by Safdie, was co-written with Ronald Bronstein and takes loose inspiration from American table tennis player Marty Reisman.

Timothée Chalamet stars in the lead role and also serves as a co-producer, with supporting performances from Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara, and Fran Drescher.

The movie premiered at the 2025 New York Film Festival on October 6 and is set to hit theaters in the United States on December 25, through A24.

Set in 1950s New York City, Marty Supreme follows the journey of a rising table tennis star, Marty Mauser, as he pushes himself to the limit in pursuit of greatness. The story mixes sports action with humor and emotional depth, showing Marty’s highs and lows both on and off the ping pong table.

Critics have been highly positive about the film. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds an impressive 95% approval rating based on 40 reviews.
