As much as Marvel fans are expecting the upcoming Moon Knight Disney+ series, rarely does someones expect the series more than the upcoming movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which, even after gigantic crossovers like Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, is set to push the boundaries of Marvel Cinematic Universe even more. Maybe we should already start getting used to MCU’s new name — Marvel Cinematic Multiverse.

Benedict Cumberbatch returns as the Master of the Mystic Arts in this movie which marks his sixth MCU appearance overall (animated series What If…? included). Cumberbatch debuted as Doctor Strange in the original 2016 movie, the movie that follows once a brilliant, but egoistic neurosurgeon whose life was suddenly changed after an accident that forced him to quit his job and find a way to heal his hands through his spirit. I don’t if that makes any sense, but it’s Marvel, so trust me, it’s cool.

Cumberbatch reprised the role in Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: No Way Home. Now we know, if you want to make a huge Marvel movie, Doctor Strange is a must-have character. Cumberbatch is quite aware of that, and now he teased that we can indeed expect one big movie (I mean, of course, we are expecting that), and he said that the movie will bring Marvel one more No Way Home-level of success. That’s a very ambitious promise, but considering everything that this movie will and could offer, it’s not impossible to achieve it.

“It’s a big, big movie… it’s going to be an absolute riot. And if it brings off the level of ambition it’s got, we’re going to have success on the level of Spidey. There you go, I’ll put my flag in the sand.” — Benedict Cumberbatch for Empire Online

Directed by Sam Raimi, director of the Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to be released on May 6, 2022.
