Guardians of the Galaxy stars returned to the set with writer and director James Gunn to start the production of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gunn shared on Twitter that yesterday was the first day of filming.
And although most Guardians of the Galaxy fans are beyond excited for a third and presumably final Guardians installment, we still didn’t forget that Marvel announced last December that we’ll get Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which will debut exclusively on Disney+ prior to the release of Vol. 3.
Last December, when Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special was officially announced by Disney and Marvel Studios, it was confirmed that James Gunn will return to write and direct. But, it was not confirmed which actors from the previous Guardians movies will return. Now, Marvel.com finally made that confirmation:
Returning cast members for the latest Guardians of the Galaxy movie include Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, and Sean Gunn, who will next be seen in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, coming Holiday 2022!Marvel.com
So, in one year, we will see how Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Nebula, Mantis, and Kraglin are spending Holidays in a Galaxy far, far away. Ops, wrong franchise, but you get what I mean. It is unknown why Rocket and Groot will be absent, but remember that we still need to see Guardians in Thor: Love and Thunder next July, so plenty of things can happen before the Holiday season.
What’s interesting is the return of Gamora in Holiday Special. We knew that Gamora from 2014, who came to 2023 during Avengers Endgame, will reunite with Guardians in Vol. 3, but since Holiday special is set before Vol. 3, it could be that we’ll see that reunion earlier than expected.
Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Vol. 3 will be filmed back-to-back. Holiday Special is set to debut in December 2022 on Disney+, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will hit theaters on May 5, 2023.
