Marvel Studios is getting ready to bring the Fantastic Four into the MCU with a brand new movie called The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The film is set to hit theaters on July 25, 2025. This will be the 37th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the second time the Fantastic Four have been rebooted.

The movie is directed by Matt Shakman and written by Josh Friedman and Eric Pearson. The main cast includes Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm. The teaser trailer just dropped, and it’s called Welcome. It gives fans their first real look at the movie’s world, which has a retro-futuristic 1960s vibe.

The studio released the teaser trailer for the movie today, and it offers the best look yet at fans fans can expect. The teaser is titled ‘Welcome’ and it’s narrated.

The story doesn’t go back to the team’s origin like past versions. Instead, it picks up with them already established and living in a unique version of Earth. In this version, they’ll be facing Galactus, the giant cosmic being who eats planets.

Ralph Ineson plays Galactus, and he’s described by the director as “a 14-billion-year-old cosmic vampire.” Ineson doesn’t see the character as a villain though. He said Galactus is just “a god who does what he does.”

This is Marvel’s first Fantastic Four movie since they got the rights back from 20th Century Fox. Fox had tried to reboot the franchise before, but their 2015 movie didn’t do well. After Disney bought Fox in 2019, Marvel started working on their own version. Jon Watts was originally going to direct, but he left the project in 2022, and Shakman came in after that. Filming happened in England and Spain from July to November 2024.

Pedro Pascal talked about his role as Reed Richards and said he focused more on Reed’s mind than his superpowers. “What I cared about most was his brain,” he said. Shakman added that Reed is “the most scientifically intelligent person on the planet,” and compared him to both Steve Jobs and Albert Einstein.

Vanessa Kirby plays Sue Storm, Reed’s pregnant wife and the sister of Johnny. She leads something called the Future Foundation, which has helped bring peace to their world. Kirby shared that she wanted Sue to be a strong, smart leader, not just a typical mom character. She said she even tried to bring in some of Sue’s darker sides from the comics. Shakman called Sue “the most emotionally intelligent person” in the group.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach plays Ben Grimm, also known as The Thing. He wore a motion capture suit for the role, kind of like what Mark Ruffalo does when he plays the Hulk. Moss-Bachrach said that Ben’s loyalty and love for his team reminded him of a character he once played on TV.

Joseph Quinn takes on the role of Johnny Storm, the Human Torch. He can fly and control fire, but Quinn wanted to show a more thoughtful side of Johnny. He said, “I wanted him to still be funny, but not as careless with people’s feelings.”

Julia Garner plays the Silver Surfer, who works for Galactus and helps him find planets to eat. She also wore a motion capture suit. Garner said her character “moves like a dance” and that it was a really interesting role to play. John Malkovich also has an important part, though details are still under wraps.

The film will include some fun extras too. The robot H.E.R.B.I.E. will be in it, voiced by Matthew Wood, and a baby actor will play Franklin Richards, Reed and Sue’s son. There are also appearances from actors like Mark Gatiss, Sarah Niles, and Natasha Lyonne. There’s a rumor going around that Robert Downey Jr. could appear in a post-credits scene as Doctor Doom, but Shakman made it clear that “Doctor Doom is not a part of my film.”

This movie is going for a different feel compared to past Fantastic Four movies. It skips the usual beginning story and dives into a bright, sci-fi world filled with strange powers and huge threats. Everyone involved seems excited to bring something new and exciting to the Marvel universe.
