Marvel Reportedly Developing New Project Centered on Fan-Favorite Defender

Before Disney+ became the main home for Marvel’s superhero stories, Netflix quietly created its own shared universe called The Defenders Saga. This collection of shows included characters like Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.
These series were known for their darker tone and complex characters who faced difficult moral choices. Jessica Jones, in particular, stood out for its deep look at trauma and identity through the eyes of a tough private investigator.
For a long time, fans weren’t sure if these Netflix shows were officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, recent Marvel projects such as Echo and Daredevil: Born Again integrated these characters into the MCU.
With Charlie Cox’s return as Daredevil in the MCU, it seems likely that other Defenders will follow. The excitement grew when it was announced that Krysten Ritter will return as Jessica Jones in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again. Although her role is still a mystery, some leaked set photos show her alongside Cox, which has fans eagerly anticipating their reunion.
Adding more fuel to the fire, insider Daniel Richtman reported that Marvel is thinking about a new Jessica Jones project that would be part of the MCU. While this is not officially confirmed, it matches what Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum said last year. At a recent event, Winderbaum named Jessica Jones as a character he wants to see more of in the MCU.
Krysten Ritter also reacted to this, saying: “Brad Winderbaum said that? That’s really exciting to hear. Isn’t that the guy who makes the call? Come on, Brad! Let’s get it going. Let’s do it. I’ll be ready.”
Though Ritter’s own series isn’t confirmed, her return in Daredevil: Born Again is a step toward bringing Jessica Jones back to the spotlight. Whether this new project will continue the Netflix story or start fresh is still unknown, but a continuation seems most likely given her upcoming appearance.
Jessica Jones isn’t the only Defender expected to reappear. Rumors have suggested that Iron Fist may return, and Luke Cage could have a larger role in future MCU projects. There was also talk about a Heroes for Hire series, featuring Luke Cage and Iron Fist working together, but recent news on that has been quiet.
As Marvel keeps expanding the MCU, fans are excited to see how these characters from the Netflix shows will be brought back and woven into the bigger Marvel story.
Bringing characters like Jessica Jones back into the MCU feels like a smart move. These shows offered a unique, grittier side of Marvel that fans really enjoyed. It will be interesting to see if Marvel can keep that tone while fitting these heroes into the bigger, more colorful MCU world.
