Marvel Studios Delays ‘The Marvels’, But Moves Up ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’

Okay, good news, bad news. One MCU movie was just delayed, but on the bright side, one other MCU movie was moved up.

As Deadline reported, upcoming MCU movies The Marvels and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania have swapped the release dates. Now, Ant-Man 3 is scheduled to arrive on February 17, 2023, while Captain Marvel 2, officially titled The Marvels will arrive on July 28, 2023.

This is the latest change in Marvel Studios’ release calendar since the last round of delays last year October. Still, the movies only swapped dates, they didn’t go further into the calendar. With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 set to be released in May 2023, we will still feature at least three MCU movies that year, and let’s not forget two Sony’s Marvel movies — Kraven the Hunter and Madame Web — and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is the third Ant-Man movie in the MCU. Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly are reprising their roles as the titular duo. Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer are also reprising the roles of Hank Pym and Janet Van Dayne. Jonathan Majors, who played He Who Remains in the Loki series will play Kang the Conqueror. Kathryn Newton joins the franchise as Cassie Lang, replacing Emma Fuhrmann, wh played the character in Avengers: Endgame.

Brie Larson will return as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel in The Marvels, the upcoming sequel of her solo movie in which she’ll be accompanied by Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel and Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau, who we previously met in the WandaVision series. Samuel L. Jackson will reprise the role of Nick Fury and Zawe Ashton was cast in an undisclosed villain role.

We repeat once again. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is now scheduled for release on February 17, 2023, while The Marvels will open in theaters on July 28, 2023.
