Marvel TV Boss Says #Savedaredevil Isn’t Enough, and Fans Need to #Watchdaredevil

Few superhero shows have had a road back to the screen like Daredevil’s. After the original Netflix series ended, fans spent years campaigning loudly to bring back Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock, and that campaign eventually led to ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ on Disney+.

Now that revival is also coming to an end. At New York Comic Con on October 8, Marvel confirmed that ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ will end with an 8-episode 3rd season premiering on Disney+ in March 2027. The crowd booed loudly, and Cox even joked that fans might need to start another “Save Daredevil” campaign.

Marvel’s head of television and animation, Brad Winderbaum, has now responded to that idea with a frank reality check. Speaking on the Main Character podcast, he made clear that social media campaigns alone don’t decide a show’s future anymore.

Daredevil Fans Are Rallying Again to Save ‘Daredevil: Born Again’, and They’ve Already Won This Fight Once Before

“The biggest leverage I have… is the actual viewership numbers… That’s where I get my power to be able to make something or not,” Winderbaum explained. The message was simple: #SaveDaredevil is great, but fans also need to #WatchDaredevil.

Winderbaum isn’t dismissing the fan campaign that brought the hero back. On the same podcast, he gave fans full credit for the revival: “But, look at Daredevil. I mean, look at Charlie. The fans literally saved Daredevil – Hashtag ‘SaveDaredevil.'”

He explained that fans made it clear they wanted the former Netflix shows back, and Marvel listened. Today’s streaming landscape is different, though, and actual viewing now carries more weight than online enthusiasm.

The viewership numbers help explain the situation. ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ launched in 2025 with 7.5 million views on Disney+, a strong start for the revived series. Season 2 didn’t hold onto that audience.

According to Luminate data reported exclusively by ComicBook.com, Season 2’s first 5 episodes drew about 4.5 million views over 5 weeks, down from roughly 8.4 million for Season 1 over the same period. Hours watched fell even further, dropping more than 54% to about 10.9 million.

The ending also comes amid changes behind the scenes. Showrunner Dario Scardapane parted ways with Marvel in September after his contract wasn’t renewed during Season 3’s post-production. The Hollywood Reporter described the timing as “eyebrow-raising.”

Reports have also pointed to the show’s high production costs, including action sequences, visual effects, and city sets, as a factor. Marvel reportedly decided a 4th season wouldn’t be financially worthwhile.

Winderbaum’s comments came during a wider conversation about the cancellation of ‘Wonder Man’, which ended after 1 season despite a previously announced renewal. The series starred Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams and premiered on Disney+ on January 27.

“I fought for the show. We all did. Everyone at Marvel wanted to see it happen,” Winderbaum said, describing the decision as the result of market forces he barely understands. He added that he still hopes there could be “a way to do something down the road.”

At least the final season is going out in a big way. Filming wrapped in July, and Season 3 will bring Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage, and Finn Jones’ Iron Fist back alongside Cox, plus Élodie Yung’s Elektra.

According to footage shown at New York Comic Con, Matt Murdock starts the season in prison while Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk is in exile. Wilson Bethel’s Dex Poindexter will also appear in a costume inspired by Bullseye’s comic look.

Winderbaum’s message gives fans a clear way to help. If the Defenders reunion in Season 3 brings in strong numbers, those figures will be his strongest argument for keeping the character on screen in some form. Whether that means a 4th season, a spinoff, or appearances in the wider MCU, the next chapter may depend on how many people actually tune in come March.

Will you be watching Season 3 of Daredevil: Born Again to help keep the hero’s future alive?
