Marvel’s ‘Avengers Doomsday’ X-Men Lineup Is Finally Confirmed and Fans Are Losing It

Marvel Studios has spent years teasing the arrival of the X-Men into the main MCU timeline, and the wait is almost over. With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ shaping up as the studio’s biggest crossover event yet, anticipation has been building around exactly which mutants would make the jump from Fox’s original film universe into Kevin Feige’s ever expanding multiverse.

That anticipation traces back two decades to the actors who first defined these characters on the big screen. James Marsden played Cyclops across ‘X-Men,’ ‘X2: X-Men United’ and ‘X-Men: The Last Stand,’ with the character’s arc appearing to end after the third film. The role was killed off in that movie, sending Marsden on to other projects for years afterward.

Now the fan account MCU The Direct has shared official artwork confirming the full mutant roster set to appear in the film, and it reads like a reunion two decades in the making. The lineup includes Gambit, Mystique, Nightcrawler, Cyclops, Beast, Magneto and Professor X, all pulled straight from the Fox era of X-Men movies. The characters are reprised by Channing Tatum as Gambit, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, James Marsden as Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Ian McKellen as Magneto and Patrick Stewart as Professor X.

The new artwork also gives fans their clearest look yet at how these characters will be redesigned for the crossover. Cyclops, Mystique and Nightcrawler are shown in comic accurate costumes, while Magneto appears in a red toned take on his original ‘X-Men’ trilogy suit and Professor X has returned to his classic silver wheelchair rather than the yellow hover chair seen in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.’ Beast has also received another visual overhaul, appearing shirtless for the first time in live action to show off his blue fur covered torso.

The X-Men are joining an absolutely massive ensemble for this crossover. Also confirmed for the film are Doctor Doom, Mister Fantastic, Bucky Barnes, Yelena Belova, Ghost, Thor, Invisible Woman, Shuri, Red Guardian, Falcon, Captain America, The Thing, Shang-Chi, M’Baku, The Sentry, Ant-Man, Human Torch, Loki, Namor and U.S. Agent. Robert Downey Jr. is set to play Doctor Doom, joined by Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Simu Liu and Tom Hiddleston, alongside the Fantastic Four cast of Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss Bachrach.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is currently dated for a December 18, 2026 theatrical release, with a follow up titled ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ already scheduled for December 17, 2027. Notably absent from the newly revealed art are Wolverine, Deadpool and the stars of the upcoming ‘Spider-Man’ movie, which has fans speculating about how those characters might factor into the story.

For longtime ‘X-Men’ fans, seeing this specific cast back together in official Marvel Studios artwork feels like a genuine full circle moment, closing a chapter that once seemed permanently shut. Which member of this returning mutant lineup are you most excited to see fighting alongside the Avengers on the big screen?
