Marvel’s Latest ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Promo Raises a Spooky New Mystery
With only weeks to go before release, Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ marketing machine is running at full speed, and every new teaser seems to bring another question. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the film sees the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers and X-Men team up against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
The campaign has leaned heavily into the villain’s darker side. The latest trailer, introduced at D23 by Downey, Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell, showed Doom effortlessly stopping Thor’s Stormbreaker strike before hitting back with a blast of green energy, and even commanding a group of Sentinels.
One thread in particular has fans obsessed. At San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel’s booth displayed a costumed figure labeled Latverian Witch, wearing green hooded robes, a metallic mask, and chain-and-armor accessories echoing Doom’s own look.
Marvel doubled down at Comic-Con Málaga on October 3 with a new poster placing Doom in front of 3 masked figures, sharing it with a playful message that witching season had arrived. Their identities remain hidden, and the poster doesn’t confirm whether they are allies, followers, or opponents.

That mystery deepened on October 17, when Marvel shared a brand-new promo for the film, which quickly went viral. The clip opens in an eerie, green-lit stone tunnel, with shadowy silhouettes moving through the darkness.
The promo was released by Marvel España and features confirmed cast members Anthony Mackie, Winston Duke, and David Harbour, who play Sam Wilson’s Captain America, M’Baku, and Red Guardian. Alongside them, it introduces 5 hooded figures that fans have yet to meet.

The twist is in the colors. Marvel had previously teased Doom flanked by 3 hooded figures in different colored robes, but this new footage shows 5 figures all dressed in the same green robes.
Naturally, the theories are flying. Some fans believe the promo could be hinting at the introduction of the Black Swans, though nothing in the clip confirms who these figures actually are.
Speculation around the original witches has been just as intense. Many fans have pointed to Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff as the red-robed figure, Charlize Theron’s Clea as the purple one, and Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie as the green one, while others have floated Monica Rambeau or Carol Danvers.
There is also a deeper lore connection at play. Doom’s mother, Cynthia, was a sorceress from Latveria’s Zefiro clan, and fans suspect the witches could be followers trained in her arts, tying into magic introduced in ‘WandaVision’ and ‘Agatha All Along’.
The new promo caps a busy week for the film’s rollout. Marvel recently released promotional art featuring Reed Richards, Gambit, Sam Wilson, Yelena Belova, Thor, Shuri and the Thing, along with fresh Doctor Doom visuals carrying a tagline declaring that Doom is supreme.

Even card collectors are getting involved. At New York Comic Con, Regal announced an exclusive Doctor Doom ‘Magic: The Gathering’ card for Crown Club members attending Infinity Vision screenings during the opening weekend of December 17 to 20.
The ensemble remains one of Marvel’s biggest yet. Alongside the returning Avengers, the cast includes Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, Ian McKellen’s Magneto and Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ arrives in theaters on December 18, with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ following on December 17, 2027. Until then, Marvel seems determined to keep fans guessing about who is lurking beneath those green hoods.
Who do you think is hiding under the mysterious hooded robes in Avengers: Doomsday?
