Marvel’s Mysterious Avengers Doomsday Witch Keeps Swapping Costumes and Fans Can’t Stop Theorizing

San Diego Comic-Con has once again become Marvel Studios’ favorite place to drop a mystery without a single word of explanation, and this year’s convention floor delivered one of its most talked about reveals yet. San Diego Comic Con has always been one of Marvel’s biggest playgrounds for teasing what comes next, and this year’s convention floor has already delivered one of the most talked about reveals of the entire weekend. With ‘Avengers Doomsday’ still months away from release, every prop and costume on display has turned into fuel for fan speculation.

The Marvel booth this year went all in on the film’s massive scope, filling the space with a new Doomsday themed logo alongside costumes for Thor, Cyclops, Gambit, Captain America, Yelena Belova and Sue Storm. The display also included a first official look at a Sentinel head, with a design fans have called comic accurate. Tucked among those familiar faces was one mannequin that stopped attendees cold.

That mannequin belongs to a character Marvel has simply labeled the Latverian Witch, and according to a widely shared post from the account Cosmic Marvel, the costume’s color has already been swapped once, changing from its original green to a new orange tone. Multiple outlets on the ground confirmed the shift was real and not a lighting trick, noting employees at the booth verified the change themselves. Some reports describe the new shade as more of a brown or gold, suggesting Marvel may be cycling through several planned variants rather than making a single one time correction.

That theory tracks with claims circulating online that the costume actually exists in at least three distinct colorways. Based on leaked photo shoot material, fans have pointed to a green version, a purple one, and an orange or gold one, with the booth reveal reportedly confirmed firsthand by reporters on site during preview night. If accurate, the rotating display could be an intentional way to keep the character’s identity under wraps for as long as possible.

Design details have only added to the guessing game. The look echoes Doctor Doom’s visual language from head to toe, with flowing robes fastened by metallic clasps and a hood partially obscuring a silver face mask, finished off with a belt featuring a silver diamond buckle whose meaning has not been explained. Fans immediately connected the design to Robert Downey Jr.’s Victor von Doom, with many hoping the figure beneath the mask turns out to be Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff making her long rumored return as Scarlet Witch.

Not everyone is convinced Wanda is the answer. Some theorists have floated the idea that the costume actually belongs to Doom’s mother, Cynthia von Doom, whose magical ties to Mephisto could set up a storyline pulled straight from the comics. Others have suggested the witch could be a shape shifting variant used to deceive one of the film’s returning heroes entirely.

With Marvel’s Hall H panel still ahead this weekend, the studio has a golden opportunity to finally clear up who is hiding under that mask, or to lean into the mystery even further. Given how much chatter a single rotating costume has already generated days before the panel even starts, ‘Avengers Doomsday’ may not need to say much at all to keep the internet talking. Who do you think Marvel is hiding beneath the Latverian Witch’s ever changing robes, and would you be more excited if it turns out to be Scarlet Witch or someone entirely new?
