Marvel’s Spy Series ‘Zodiac’ Recruits the Original ‘Euphoria’ Creator and His Longtime Partner To Write It
Marvel’s live-action TV slate has been getting noticeably thinner, which made the surprise reveal of ‘Zodiac’ at New York Comic Con one of the more intriguing announcements of the season.
On October 8, Brad Winderbaum, Head of Marvel Television, Animation, Comics & Franchise, unveiled the title and logo for the new spy thriller, which is headed to Disney+. Beyond calling it a global spy thriller, he kept nearly everything else under wraps, insisting the project was still a secret.
The timing gave the reveal extra weight. ‘Zodiac’ is the first new live-action Marvel series announced since ‘Ironheart’, arriving as ‘VisionQuest’ wraps up the WandaVision trilogy, ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ prepares to end with its third season, and ‘Wonder Man’ was canceled after just 1 season. Winderbaum did confirm that casting would begin within weeks, with filming set to take place in London in the spring.
Now, the show has its creative team. According to an exclusive report from Deadline, Amit Cohen and Ron Leshem have been set as the writers of ‘Zodiac’. The outlet’s sources also shared the first real story detail, revealing that the series will follow a pair of spies who are chasing targets with special abilities.
Deadline also reiterated the production timeline. The show is expected to begin production in 2027 ahead of a premiere on Disney+ in 2028. On paper, Cohen and Leshem feel like natural picks for a spy story.
The 2 first met while serving in Unit 8200, the Israeli Intelligence Corps, and have since built an impressive résumé of tense, politically charged dramas. Together, they co-created ‘The Gordin Cell’, which was remade in the US as NBC’s ‘Allegiance’, along with the Syrian Civil War drama ‘No Man’s Land’ for Hulu.

Their partnership has delivered plenty of other hits. They’re behind the war drama ‘Valley of Tears’, which became the highest-rated drama in the history of Israeli public television, as well as ‘Trust No One’, ‘Bad Boy’, ‘Traitor’, ‘Red Skies’ and ‘8200’. Cohen also created ‘False Flag’ on his own, a celebrated Israeli series that aired in 127 countries.
Leshem is perhaps best known as the creator of the original Israeli ‘Euphoria’, which inspired HBO’s adaptation starring Zendaya, where he serves as an executive producer. His screenwriting credits also include ‘Beaufort’, which earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.
Marvel hasn’t confirmed how the series connects to the wider MCU, which has left fans hunting for clues. In the comics, Zodiac refers to a group of supervillains who operate under astrological codenames, first appearing in ‘The Avengers’ #72 back in January 1970.

Some fans and outlets have studied the logo closely for hints. Esquire India pointed to an eagle hidden in the “A” as a possible nod to S.H.I.E.L.D., while IGN has suggested the show could center on the agency, though neither theory has been confirmed. Clark Gregg has even teased a possible link between Agent Coulson and the series.
The newly revealed premise, spies hunting people with special abilities, certainly leaves room for those theories to play out. It also fits a genre the MCU has explored before in projects like ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ and ‘Secret Invasion’.

With seasoned espionage storytellers now on board and casting expected to start soon, ‘Zodiac’ is quickly shaping up to be one of Marvel Television’s most intriguing upcoming projects. More details should emerge as production approaches.
