Insomniac Games has spent years teasing fans with scraps of information about its upcoming ‘Wolverine‘ title, and the anticipation has only grown louder as the release date closes in. What started as a mysterious reveal trailer has slowly transformed into one of the most eagerly tracked superhero games in development, with every new detail sparking fresh waves of fan speculation.

Costumes, in particular, have become a defining part of that hype cycle. Ever since Insomniac’s approach to unlockable suits in its ‘Spider-Man’ games became a fan-favorite feature, players have wondered just how deep Wolverine’s in-game wardrobe would run, and whether it would pull directly from some of the character’s most beloved animated and comic book looks.

That question now has a striking answer. New footage shared online gives fans their first proper look at Wolverine’s ‘X-Men ’97’ suit running in-game, adding fuel to what has already been a steady stream of costume reveals ahead of launch.

The ‘X-Men ’97’ costume is far from the only nostalgic pull in Insomniac’s game. A recently leaked list of suits, shared by a Reddit user via Imgur, laid out what is reportedly the full roster of 32 alleged Wolverine costumes, some of which had already been officially confirmed through the game’s features trailer.

Insomniac developer James Stevenson has confirmed on X that 27 costumes will be unlockable in the base game, with five additional exclusive suits tied to the Digital Deluxe Edition. That lineup reportedly includes deep comic book pulls like the Patch Look from Chris Claremont’s Madripoor arc and the Weapon X suit inspired by Barry Windsor-Smith’s 1991 run, alongside original Insomniac designs.

The wardrobe rabbit hole goes back even further than this week’s footage. Datamined material uncovered following a 2023 ransomware breach of Insomniac’s systems first revealed four alternate Wolverine costumes, including his classic brown-and-ochre look complete with the character’s original comic-accurate briefs, along with a black-and-yellow variant and a more armored, tactical design.

That 2023 breach, carried out by the Rhysida ransomware group, exposed far more than just costume art. The leak revealed that ‘Wolverine’ is intended to be the first of three X-Men games in development at Insomniac, part of a publishing agreement between Sony and Marvel that reportedly allocates $120 million per game.

Despite the scale of that early leak, Insomniac has continued rolling out official material at its own pace, culminating in the confirmed suit counts and features trailer that fans have picked apart in the weeks leading up to launch. ‘Marvel’s Wolverine’ is set to release on September 15, 2026, exclusively on PS5, putting the game just one day away from players finally getting hands-on access to Logan’s full closet.

For a character as visually iconic as Wolverine, the sheer volume of costume options, spanning decades of comic history and now stretching into beloved animated adaptations like ‘X-Men ’97,’ signals just how much Insomniac is leaning into fan service for this release. Whether the rest of the game lives up to that same level of care remains to be seen, but the wardrobe alone has already given fans plenty to talk about.
