For DC collectors, the toy landscape is in the middle of a major shake-up, and the first Mattel DCU figures are already turning heads. Back in February 2025, Mattel announced a multi-year deal with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, winning global rights to make DC action figures, playsets, accessories, role-play products, and adult collectibles starting in the second half of 2026.

It marked a homecoming of sorts. Mattel had lost those rights about 6 years earlier to Spin Master and McFarlane Toys, though it was still allowed to produce DC toys aimed at girls and preschoolers, and McFarlane has continued its DC Multiverse line through the end of 2026.

Now, fans have their first look at figures based on James Gunn’s DC Universe. Photos shared on the DCU subreddit show Mattel’s take on David Corenswet’s Superman alongside his loyal dog Krypto, plus a figure of Peacemaker from the show’s second season.

The Superman display features the Man of Steel in his classic blue suit with a flowing red cape, posed beside a white Krypto in a tiny red cape of his own. The packaging behind them also teases swappable hands, a staple of collector-focused figures. The Peacemaker figure stands out just as much.

It’s shown in a patterned black shirt and silver helmet, displayed in front of a ‘DC Legacy Collection’ box marked ‘Series 01’. The reveal fits into a broader collector strategy from Mattel. At New York Comic Con, the company revealed 2 new lines coming in Spring 2027: the DC Legacy Collection and the DC Ultimate Edition.

As Biff Bam Pop pointed out, Mattel is essentially running the same playbook it uses for WWE, with 3 main lines at different price points. That includes the DC Premiere line of 6.5-inch core figures, which has already earned glowing reviews from collectors.

The Legacy Collection’s debut wave leans heavily on classic heroes. Figures shown at NYCC included Earth 2 Superman, Black Suit Superman, Black Lightning, Wonder Woman, Hal Jordan and John Stewart Green Lanterns, and Absolute Batman and Catwoman, all with full articulation on pinless joints.

Eagle-eyed collectors may have seen Peacemaker coming. Last month, German retailer listings revealed a ‘DC Ultimate Edition Peacemaker’ figure under item number JRG08, alongside a Flash and Reverse-Flash 2-pack and a Legacy Collection Iconics assortment.

DCCollectors speculated that the Ultimate Edition name could mean a highly articulated, accessory-packed figure with swappable heads, multiple helmets, and weapons. For now, Mattel hasn’t detailed exactly what each version will include.

Bringing Gunn’s DCU into the lineup gives Mattel a fresh, modern hook. The LA Times noted that film releases, comics, and TV shows can bolster excitement for new toys, and Mattel previously produced figures tied to ‘The Dark Knight’, ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’, and ‘Justice League’.

There’s also a booming adult market to tap into. Global toy sales stabilized in part thanks to a growing number of adults buying toys for themselves, a trend these collector lines are clearly designed to capture. Corenswet’s Superman and Krypto have already proven popular in the collectibles space. Iron Studios, for example, has released Superman and Krypto statues based on the film.

With McFarlane’s DC run wrapping up at the end of 2026, Mattel is set to become the main home for DC figures going forward. Spring 2027 should bring a wave of new releases, and the DCU figures suggest the studio’s newest heroes will be front and center. Fans can expect more details as the launch approaches. If these early looks are any indication, Mattel is serious about winning over both kids and longtime collectors.

Which of Mattel’s new DCU figures would you most want to add to your collection?
