Matthew Lillard, best known for playing Shaggy in the live-action Scooby-Doo films, recently joked about joining the DC Universe.

Speaking to the press, Lillard mentioned his longtime friendship with James Gunn, who directed the Scooby-Doo movies. “James Gunn is one of my dear friends… he wrote ‘Scooby-Doo’ 1 & 2… I keep waiting for that invitation,” Lillard said. He added, “If you run into James Gunn, tell him I’m available…I keep waiting for that invitation, I don’t know if it’s lost in the mail.”

Fans were quick to point out the humor in Lillard’s comment, noting that he’s already somewhat connected to DC through the long-running Scooby-Doo comics. Social media quickly filled with suggestions for which DC characters he could play, including the Joker and Swamp Thing.

While Lillard waits for a possible DC role, he is busy with several projects. He is set to play William Afton in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, which is currently in post-production.

He will also reprise his role as Stu in Scream 7. On the TV front, Lillard has been cast in the Marvel Universe as part of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. Additionally, he is playing Principal Grayle in the upcoming TV reboot of Carrie, which is currently filming.

It seems Lillard’s schedule is packed, but fans are excited to see where he might appear next, whether in DC, Marvel, or another franchise. His playful comments about waiting for the DC call have already sparked lively discussions about potential casting choices.
