During a surprise appearance at Cinespia’s Halloween screening of the original Scream, actor Matthew Lillard made a bold statement against ICE and encouraged the audience to vote and focus on love.

Speaking at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, Lillard told the crowd, “F*** ICE. In this time, in this city, we need to lead with love. Do not forget that s*** in this moment — not to be political, but to be political as s***.” The remarks were met with loud cheers from attendees.

Lillard also urged the audience to vote yes on California’s Proposition 50, a ballot measure aimed at redrawing congressional districts to eliminate extra GOP seats from Texas. “You have to vote. If you don’t vote, we are going down, so it’s on us. And if you don’t like that, I’m so not sorry,” he said.

Fans know Lillard for his iconic role as Stu Macher in the 1996 Scream, the classic horror film that launched a long-running franchise. Stu was part of the killer duo with Billy Loomis, played by Skeet Ulrich, and the film also starred Drew Barrymore, Neve Campbell, Rose McGowan, Courtney Cox, Jamie Kennedy, and David Arquette.

Lillard is set to return for Scream 7, scheduled for release on February 27 by Spyglass/Paramount. It remains unclear how he will reprise the character, since Stu appeared to have died in the first film after Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) dropped a television on his head, not to mention the stab wounds he and Billy faked to mislead others about Ghostface’s victims.
