Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera Race Against Flames in Thrilling ‘The Lost Bus’ Trailer
The first trailer for The Lost Bus has just been released, and it gives a tense and emotional glimpse into one of the most terrifying wildfires in American history. The upcoming survival drama is directed by Paul Greengrass and stars Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera in a gripping story about bravery, chaos, and survival.
The film is based on the nonfiction book Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire by journalist Lizzie Johnson. It tells the real-life story of the 2018 Camp Fire, the deadliest wildfire in California history.
In the movie, McConaughey plays Kevin McCay, a school bus driver who finds himself in a desperate situation as he tries to drive a bus full of kids and a teacher to safety. America Ferrera plays Mary Ludwig, the teacher who joins him on the dangerous journey.
Apple TV+ is behind the project, and the film will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025.
According to the official synopsis, “The Lost Bus is a white-knuckle ride through one of America’s deadliest wildfires as a wayward school bus driver (Matthew McConaughey) and a dedicated school teacher (America Ferrera) battle to save 22 children from the terrifying inferno.”
The cast also includes Yul Vazquez, Ashlie Atkinson, Spencer Watson, and Danny McCarthy. Production began in April 2024 in Ruidoso, New Mexico. The movie was produced by Jamie Lee Curtis through Comet Films and Jason Blum for Blumhouse Productions. Greengrass co-wrote the script with Brad Ingelsby.
The trailer shows smoke-filled skies, roads blocked by fire, and the emotional tension between the adults as they try to keep the children calm. McConaughey and Ferrera’s characters are clearly pushed to the limit as they make split-second decisions that could mean life or death. It’s a powerful look at ordinary people doing everything they can in an extraordinary situation.
Apple confirmed its involvement earlier this year, and the film will hit select theaters before arriving on Apple TV+ sometime in 2025.
With its emotional story, intense visuals, and strong performances, The Lost Bus looks like it will be one of the most talked-about films of the year.
