Matthias Schoenaerts, ‘Supergirl’ Villain, Handed Six-Month Prison Sentence

Matthias Schoenaerts, the actor set to play the main bad guy, Krem of the Yellow Hill, in the upcoming Supergirl movie, has just gotten into some serious trouble.

A police court in Beringen, Belgium, decided that the 47-year-old actor has to go to jail for six months. On top of the prison time, he was hit with a €4,000 fine and won’t be allowed to drive for a year. The court made this ruling because Schoenaerts was driving without a legal licence.

This is not the first time the actor has had problems with the law. He has actually been found guilty by a police court 11 times before.

The latest issues happened when police stopped Schoenaerts on his motorbike in a town called Pelt, in Limburg, back on two separate days: April 5 and April 21, 2024. Both times, he did not have a valid driving licence.

Schoenaerts had lost his driving privileges a while ago, in September 2021 in Antwerp. That ban was given to him because he was driving while using drugs. To get his licence back, he was required to take special “recovery tests” and exams, but he simply failed to do them.

The court gave the sentence even though Schoenaerts was not there today. He was sentenced in his absence. He will also be forced to retake all the tests he was supposed to complete earlier.

Now, this sentence does not mean the actor is going straight to jail right away. He still has the chance to appeal the decision.

It is important to know that this recent conviction is actually separate from his arrest last week. Last week, Schoenaerts was stopped again by police in Pelt. He was reportedly driving without a valid licence then, too, and was said to be uncooperative when he allegedly refused a breathalyser test.

Schoenaerts is a big part of the upcoming Supergirl movie, as the character he is playing, Krem of the Yellow Hill, is the main villain from the limited series the movie is based on.
