The press tour for ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ has turned into something of a love letter to the franchise’s fashion history. McKenna Grace, who stars as District 12 tributes Maysilee and Merrilee Donner, has used nearly every stop to celebrate the costumes, characters, and stars that came before her. Directed by Francis Lawrence, the prequel arrives in theaters on November 20.

Her tributes have been anything but subtle. In Paris, she attended the opening of the costume exhibition ‘Elegance Is Authority: The Story, Style and Power of Panem’ at the Musée Rodin in a vintage Monique Lhuillier gown reworked to echo the iconic wedding dress Katniss wore in ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’.

Now Grace has added yet another reference to her growing collection. As shared by Film Updates, the actress revisited Katniss Everdeen’s look from President Snow’s mansion in ‘Catching Fire’ in a new picture.

In the photo, Grace poses in a black dress with dramatic red feathered shoulder details, finished with a gold headband and her blonde hair swept back. She cheekily holds up her phone to show the original reference image, making the homage impossible to miss.

The side-by-side comparison shows how closely her outfit mirrors Jennifer Lawrence’s black gown with its striking red feathered shoulders, worn in the scene alongside Josh Hutcherson’s Peeta.

Grace has been clear about her intentions. She has described her press tour outfits as an homage to everyone who was part of the franchise before her, and her looks have referenced characters, designers, and cast members from the earlier films.

The tributes go beyond Katniss. At one stop, she wore a sleek red dress widely seen as a nod to Lawrence’s famous red Oscars gown, and another look referenced an outfit Jena Malone, who played Johanna Mason, wore to the ‘Catching Fire’ New York premiere. Even her subtler outfits carry hidden meaning. At a photocall in Sydney, she paired a pink House of Gilles gown with a braid, a hairstyle synonymous with Katniss.

Grace’s wardrobe has been put together by stylist Molly Dickson, whom she thanked on Instagram for months of work on her press tour looks. The pair has mixed archival pieces, designer gowns and playful references into one of the most talked-about promotional runs of the year.

The experience has also been meaningful for Grace personally. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, she described the process as healing, explaining that fashion once made her feel insecure growing up and that she’s now having fun with it instead.

Grace has long been open about her love for the franchise, and her outfits reflect that genuine fandom. She has named Lawrence as her favorite actress and a major style inspiration.

The tributes also carry a thematic weight. In the new film, Maysilee is the tribute who becomes the first person to wear the Mockingjay pin, a symbol that Katniss would later carry into rebellion.

With the film less than a month away, Grace’s looks are helping keep ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ at the center of the conversation. Lawrence and Hutcherson are also set to return as Katniss and Peeta, adding another layer of connection between the new story and the original series. If her streak continues, fans can expect plenty more Easter eggs before the premiere arrives.
