Mckenna Grace Recreates Katniss Everdeen’s Iconic Wedding Dress at a Dazzling ‘Hunger Games’ Exhibition in Paris

The countdown to ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ is officially on, and Lionsgate is going big with its promotion. The studio has brought Panem to Paris Fashion Week, transforming the gardens of the city’s famous Musée Rodin into a real-life version of the Capitol.

The one-day fashion exhibition is called “Elegance Is Authority: The Story, Style and Power of Panem.” It celebrates the costumes, silhouettes and fashion codes that have made the franchise’s world so instantly recognizable.

At the exhibition’s intimate opening on Tuesday, October 6, star Mckenna Grace delivered a showstopping tribute to the franchise’s history. The 20-year-old actress arrived in a gown inspired by the unforgettable wedding dress Katniss Everdeen wore in ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’.

Grace’s gown featured a sparkling, sculptural metallic bodice with a lattice-like design that extended over one shoulder. It flowed into a full, ruffled white skirt, closely echoing the dramatic silhouette fans remember from the 2013 film.

In ‘Catching Fire’, President Snow orders Katniss to wear a wedding dress for her pre-Games interview. Her stylist, Cinna, designs it to transform into a mockingjay-inspired look, turning the moment into a symbol of rebellion.

The original metal-and-chiffon dress worn by Jennifer Lawrence was created by Indonesian designer Tex Saverio. Just Jared reported that Grace’s version was by Monique Lhuillier.

Grace was joined at the event by co-star Joseph Zada, who plays young Haymitch Abernathy in the prequel. Zada wore a suit from ERL accented with a Tiffany brooch. The pair spoke to guests at the event in costume-inspired looks. Grace highlighted how much storytelling can be conveyed through wardrobe alone, a fitting message for a fashion-focused celebration.

She also shared a video of her look on social media, captioning it with a line from her character in the upcoming film. Grace plays Maysilee Donner in ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’. The look sparked plenty of excitement online. Many fans praised the dress as stunning, with one calling it “fire,” while others joked that they now needed to see Grace spin in it, just like Katniss.

Not everyone agreed with the choice, however. Some fans said they would have preferred to see a nod to the mockingjay dress instead, while others reminded critics that the look was simply a fun way to market the new film. Grace has also emphasized that she’s a super fan of the Panem lore. That passion makes the tribute feel especially meaningful.

‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ is set during the 50th Hunger Games, known as the Second Quarter Quell. The era showcases the Capitol’s pageantry and control at their most refined, even as the earliest sparks of rebellion begin to emerge.

The stacked cast also includes Elle Fanning, Jesse Plemons, Glenn Close, Maya Hawke, Iris Apatow and Ralph Fiennes. With the film’s premiere drawing closer, Lionsgate’s Paris takeover is a clear sign that the marketing campaign is ramping up.

‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ arrives in theaters on November 20. If this exhibition is any indication, fans can expect plenty more fashion-forward moments along the way.
