Fantastic Four is one of the most-anticipated MCU movies. Not only because it will bring the titular team into the MCU canon, but also because this will be the third shot for Fantastic Four to get a worthwhile adaptation on the big screen.
Marvel Studios officially announced that the movie is in development in December 2020, with Jon Watts initially set to direct. Shortly after the release of his Spider-Man: No Way Home, Watts stepped down from the project. At the recent D23 presentation, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced that Matt Shakman, who directed all episodes of WandaVision, will take over to direct Fantastic Four.
Now, Deadline is reporting that the upcoming movie has found its writers, two of them. The duo that will pen the script will be Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer. They aren’t really known writers, but the report is saying that they have been attached to the project for a while now, even before Shakman was hired as the new director. The writing process hasn’t begun yet, as writers and the director still need to come together to discuss their visions for the movie.
Many fans expected that the cast members of the Fantastic Four will be revealed at D23, which didn’t happen in the end. John Krasinski played Reed Richards in this year’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but it’s been reported that the upcoming movie will assemble an entirely new cast.
Fantastic Four first appeared on the big screen in 2005 with the first movie directed by Tim Story and starring Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis. The movie wasn’t well-received, but it was successful enough to get a sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, which failed critically. In 2015, a reboot called FANT4STIC was released, and the movie was panned by the critics, and today it’s deemed as one of the worst superhero movies ever made. Let’s hope the third time is the charm for F4.
Fantastic Four will open Phase 6 of the MCU. It is set to be released on November 8, 2024.
