MCU Star Breaks Silence on Rumors of an Affair With Michelle Obama

Kumail Nanjiani is having a laugh at a strange rumor that linked him to Michelle Obama, even though he says there is absolutely no truth to it.

The comedian and actor talked about the situation on the Dec. 25 episode of the podcast So True With Caleb Hearon, which is the main source of this story. Kumail, who has been married to writer Emily Gordon since 2007, explained that he only found out about the rumor recently.

“There was a rumor going around last year that I was having an affair with Michelle Obama,” he said during the podcast. “I know, I was so excited.”

Kumail shared that he didn’t even hear about the gossip directly. Instead, a mutual friend told his wife Emily about it first. According to him, the friend pulled her aside and said, “Hey, so, I heard that Kumail and Michelle Obama are, like, doing it.” Emily didn’t take it seriously and wasn’t upset at all.

Kumail made it clear that the story is completely made up. “I’ve never met Michelle Obama,” he said, shutting down any chance that the rumor could be true.

During the same podcast episode, host Caleb Hearon pointed out that this fake story came not long after another rumor involving the Obamas. Last year, gossip spread online claiming that former President Barack Obama was romantically linked to Jennifer Aniston. That rumor also turned out to be false and was something Jennifer Aniston laughed about publicly.

Jennifer addressed it during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live in October, which is another source tied to this story. She joked about how surprising the claim was. “Of all the calls you get from your publicist where you’re like, ‘Oh no, what’s it gonna be?’” she said. “And then it’s that.” She added that she didn’t mind the rumor, saying, “I was not mad at it.” Still, she clarified, “I know Michelle more than him.”

Hearing this for the first time, Kumail joined in on the joke. He sarcastically asked on the podcast, “What do we think? We think it’s real?” Caleb replied by teasing him, saying that being linked to Michelle Obama puts him in the same league as Jennifer Aniston.

Kumail didn’t fully agree and continued joking about it. “I think Michelle’s slumming it,” he said, before adding another joke aimed at the former president. “And to be honest, no shade to Jen, Barack’s slumming it too.”

He went on to explain that he holds Michelle Obama in very high regard. “Michelle Obama is a very high bar to clear,” he said. He also made sure to add, “And I love Jennifer Aniston, I’m genuinely a huge fan.”
