Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was the first MCU movie to talk about Incursions, and these will be a big deal in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Incursions happen when universes collide because of too much multiverse travel. This can destroy entire universes, which could lead to the MCU’s Secret Wars and a possible reboot.

At first, it looked like Kang the Conqueror would be the main cause of Incursions. But his storyline was changed, so fans are now exploring new possibilities. Several MCU characters have already caused Incursions.

Back in 2018, when Thanos tried to gather the Infinity Stones, Doctor Strange used the Darkhold to travel the Multiverse and find a way to stop him. This dreamwalking caused an Incursion that destroyed another universe and killed everyone there.

In a separate universe, Doctor Strange even tried killing other versions of himself using dreamwalking. This triggered another Incursion, destroying his universe and leaving him as the only survivor. In late 2024, Doctor Strange met Clea, who told him he had caused an Incursion and that they needed to fix it.

Fans have been guessing who will be the main cause of Incursions in the MCU. The collision of universes could even bring in Fox’s X-Men. Popular guesses included Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Loki, and America Chavez. But a source called MyTimeToShineHello on X claimed it is actually Steve Rogers who caused the Incursion, and now Doctor Doom wants him dead.

Steve Rogers’ history in the MCU makes this possible. After the Snap, he and the Avengers traveled through time to collect the Infinity Stones, which led to the Blip. He fought in the Battle of Earth and wielded Mjølnir against Thanos.

After Tony Stark’s sacrifice, Rogers returned the stones and decided to stay in the 1940s with Peggy Carter. He grew old, reunited with his friends in the present, and passed his shield to Sam Wilson. Rogers then retired, and his current location is unknown.

Using in-universe logic, it makes sense that Rogers could have caused an Incursion. Spending decades in a different time period with Peggy is basically prolonged multiversal travel. This could destabilize the Multiverse according to the definition of Incursions.

Chris Evans is confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, though his role is unclear. Rumors suggest he may play a variant of Captain America called Nomad. In the comics, Nomad is Steve Rogers’ identity after he abandons Captain America when he loses faith in the government.

He becomes a hero with no allegiance to any nation. A Nomad-like version of Rogers was hinted at in Avengers: Infinity War when he was on the run with Sam Wilson and Natasha Romanoff. Co-director Joe Russo said Rogers wasn’t officially Nomad but “embodied the spirit of that character.”

How this Nomad version will fit into the wider Multiverse is still a mystery. But if Rogers really caused the Incursion, it could have huge consequences for the MCU going forward.
