MCU’s Nova Reportedly Has Open Casting: Richard Rider Role Could Go to a POC

Marvel Studios is working on many new projects, including both popular and lesser-known comic characters. Even though Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum said they’d slow down and release only a few movies and shows each year, they’re still coming up with new ideas.

One project, ‘Nova,’ has been in the works for a long time. It was originally planned as a TV series, then changed to a movie, and now it looks like it might go back to being a series.

About six months ago, Marvel’s TV head confirmed that a ‘Nova’ live-action series is being developed. However, he also mentioned that just because a project is in early stages, it doesn’t mean it will definitely happen, following the studio’s new guidelines.

Winderbaum recently gave an update on the ‘Nova’ show, saying it’s moved past the “early development” stage and is making good progress. He mentioned that while it’s still in development, the show has a lot of potential, especially with its unique tone and vibe, which he described as “very cool.

We don’t know much about the show yet, like its plot or which version of Nova it will focus on. Some rumors suggest it will feature Richard Rider, while others say it could focus on Sam Alexander. Industry insider Daniel Richtman shared a rumor on his Patreon that casting is open to actors of any ethnicity.

This means the role isn’t just for a white actor, and there’s a chance a person of color (POC) could be cast. This is interesting because Marvel Comics already has a POC Nova character, Sam Alexander.

In addition to the casting news, the latest update suggests that the show’s villain will be Annihilus, a powerful character known for leading the Annihilation Wave that destroyed the Nova Corps in the comics. This hints at big battles and a strong connection to Nova’s comic book history.
