Meet the Cast of Apple TV’s ‘Nocturne’ (With Photos)
The ‘Nocturne’ cast brings together three decorated leads and a deep supporting ensemble for Apple TV’s latest crime drama. The series arrives globally on Friday, October 30 with its first two episodes, followed by new episodes every Friday through December 25. The season runs for 10 episodes.
The story follows an ex-soldier turned detective who is protecting his town from a cunning serial killer. Liev Schreiber, Zazie Beetz and Stephen Graham lead the show, with Bill Camp, Rory Culkin, Chrissy Metz, Poorna Jagannathan and Gary Carr in the ensemble. The series was produced for Apple TV by A+E Studios in association with Range Studios.
Liev Schreiber

Liev Schreiber plays Jonah Lynn, the detective at the center of the story. Viewers know him from ‘Spotlight’ and ‘Ray Donovan’, and he is a Tony Award winner as well as an Emmy and Golden Globe nominee.
Jonah is a former Army Ranger, a former Philadelphia detective and a former cop in the small Pennsylvania town of Fairhaven. He is locally revered and pitied, since his wife and child died in a car accident.
Schreiber’s detective is pitted against Stephen Graham’s serial killer Jurek Walter. That pairing gives the ‘Nocturne’ cast its central conflict. Schreiber is the quiet anchor of the series, and the show leans on his restraint.
Zazie Beetz

Zazie Beetz plays FBI Agent Saga Bauer. She is known as Domino in ‘Deadpool 2’ and earned an Emmy nomination for her role as Van in ‘Atlanta’.
Saga is an undercover FBI agent and Jonah’s goddaughter, and her father was Jonah’s partner. Her involvement in the case leads her to go undercover at the hospital that holds Jurek Walter.
The source novels also pair a veteran detective with Saga Bauer, a young inspector sent in to get close to the killer, and that dynamic carries over to the series. One of the first look photos shows Beetz as Saga standing before a murder board covered with missing persons. The image suggests a character who is already deep into the hunt.
Stephen Graham

Stephen Graham plays the killer Jurek Walter. He is known for playing Eddie Miller in ‘Adolescence’, a role that earned him an Emmy, a Golden Globe and the BAFTA TV Award for Leading Actor.
Walter is a serial killer held in solitary confinement in a concrete cell in the basement of a psychiatric hospital, yet he still appears to be working his will on the world. Both of the Lars Kepler novels behind the series revolve around Jurek Walter.
Writing for the Los Angeles Times, Robert Lloyd called Graham a great actor who plays Walter as creepy as the role requires. It is a measured assessment for a part that could easily tip into excess.
Bill Camp

Bill Camp plays Chief Ellison and is known for ‘The Night Of’ and ‘Presumed Innocent’. The role places a seasoned character actor beside the three leads.
The review describes the police chief as an ordinary good cop and a solid citizen, and as close to a best friend as Jonah has. Lloyd singles out Camp’s performance as a quiet standout of the series.
Every thriller of this kind needs a figure who keeps the story grounded. Camp’s chief supplies that, and the show benefits from the contrast with its more extreme characters.
Rory Culkin

Rory Culkin plays Karl, an empathetic new orderly at the hospital who is promoted into delivering Walter’s food and medication. Culkin is known for ‘You Can Count On Me’ and also appeared in ‘Signs’ and ‘Scream 4’.
The role puts Culkin inside the most tense setting in the series. The review calls Karl probably the most impressionable person in the hospital.
The rest of the ‘Nocturne’ cast includes Chrissy Metz as Ida, Poorna Jagannathan as Quinn and Gary Carr as Nathan. Metz is known for ‘This Is Us’, Jagannathan for ‘Never Have I Ever’ and Carr for ’21 Bridges’ and ‘Downton Abbey’. With so many familiar faces around Jurek Walter’s cell, which supporting performance do you expect to stay with you after Schreiber and Graham’s face-off in ‘Nocturne’, and why?
