Meet the Full Cast of FX’s ‘The Drop: A Snowfall Saga’ (With Pictures)

‘The Drop: A Snowfall Saga’ brought the world of ‘Snowfall’ back to FX this fall, trading the crack epidemic of the 1980s for the rise of West Coast rap in the early 1990s. The title was announced on June 2, 2026, with the series following Wanda Bell and Leon Simmons as they carry familiar faces from the original show into a new chapter of South Central Los Angeles. The eight episode first season premiered on FX and Hulu on Tuesday, September 8, airing one episode a week.

The spinoff leans on a mix of returning ‘Snowfall’ players and new additions who round out its ensemble. Below is a rundown of the actors bringing ‘The Drop: A Snowfall Saga’ to life, along with the characters they play.

Gail Bean

Gail Bean reprises her role as Wanda Bell-Simmons, one of the two ‘Snowfall’ veterans anchoring the new series. Bean’s version of Wanda has managed to stay clean after recovering from addiction during the final season of ‘Snowfall,’ though she remains dependent on Leon even as she builds a new life.

Bean was attached to the project from its earliest stages, well before the spinoff had its current title. Her character’s driving idea for the series is a desire to break into the music business by assembling what the show describes as a ragtag group of geniuses.

Isaiah John

Isaiah John returns as Leon Simmons, Wanda’s partner and another familiar face from ‘Snowfall,’ who is trying to leave his old street life behind by helping run a free legal clinic. John was previously seen in Netflix’s ‘All Day and a Night,’ where he played the character TQ.

In the new series, Leon questions Wanda’s determination to chase a business tied to many of the same people and streets they once fought to survive. Critics have noted that John plays the role with a quiet maturity that suits Leon’s attempt at a fresh start.

Asante Blackk

Asante Blackk plays Lamar Kinsey, one of Wanda’s cousins, who becomes part of her attempt to build a new group around West Coast music. Blackk is best known for his Emmy nominated role in Netflix’s crime drama ‘When They See Us,’ along with roles in ‘This Is Us,’ ‘Euphoria’ and ‘Landscape with Invisible Hand.’

In the show, Lamar is described as a musical savant whose artistic dreams are not supported by his grandparents and guardians. Reviewers have singled out Blackk’s performance as a mix of long, doe eyed silence and bursts of unbridled anger and hyperactivity.

Peyton Alex Smith

Peyton Alex Smith plays James Kinsey, Wanda’s other cousin, who becomes involved in her growing music venture alongside Lamar. Smith previously played Damon Sims in ‘All American: Homecoming,’ with other credits including ‘Legacies.’

James is caught between protecting his younger brother Lamar from danger and recognizing that Lamar may actually have something special. Critics have highlighted Smith’s performance as James as a heartfelt turn within the ensemble.

Simmie ‘Buddy’ Sims III

Rapper Simmie “Buddy” Sims III was announced as a series regular at the time of the series order. He plays Artillery, a gangbanger and street poet already causing trouble with a song about recent police violence when Wanda discovers his demo tape.

Wanda believes pairing Artillery with Lamar could create something special, and the show suggests she turns out to be right, even if that success comes with real risk in early 1990s Los Angeles.

Mykelti Williamson

Mykelti Williamson plays Big Daddy Casey, one of the grandparents and guardians raising Lamar and James. Williamson’s character is less interested in what Lamar could become than in simply keeping him alive.

Reviewers have described Williamson, alongside his onscreen wife, as underutilized in the early episodes but still bringing dramatic heft whenever he appears on screen.

Nicki Micheaux

Nicki Micheaux plays Gerty Casey, known in the show as Mama G, the other half of Lamar and James’s grandparents and guardians. Her character would prefer that both boys dedicate themselves to work and the church rather than the risks that come with the music business.

Micheaux’s prior television work includes recurring roles on ‘Good Trouble,’ ‘Shameless’ and ‘In the Dark,’ along with a leading role in the 2017 film ‘Lowlife.’

Brandon Mychal Smith

Brandon Mychal Smith joined the cast when the series title was revealed in June 2026. He plays DG, a character the review describes as slickly abusive, whose full nature the show has not yet fully unpacked even a few episodes into the season.

Rounding out the ensemble are Quincy Chad, who returns from ‘Snowfall’ as Deon “Big D” Barber, along with Eric Balfour, Richard Portnow, Isidora Goreshter, Zaire Adams and Demetrius Grosse, all of whom joined the cast when the series title was announced.
