Melissa Gilbert has broken her silence following the release of her husband, Timothy Busfield, from an Albuquerque jail as he awaits trial for child abuse. Through her lifestyle brand, Modern Prairie, the Little House on the Prairie star shared a heartfelt message on Monday, acknowledging the immense pressure her family has faced since the charges were made public.

Gilbert described the current period as an extraordinarily difficult time, expressing gratitude for the support she has received from her online community. Not only for Tim, me and our family, but in the collective heaviness so many of us seem to be carrying right now, she wrote. She emphasized the importance of stepping back from the noise and prioritizing rest during what she described as an unexpected storm.

Her husband, an Emmy-winning actor and director known for his roles in thirtysomething and The West Wing, was arrested earlier this month after a warrant was issued in New Mexico. Busfield faces two counts of criminal contact with a minor and one count of child abuse, stemming from alleged incidents on the set of the Fox series The Cleaning Lady. According to court documents, the allegations involve a child actor who was seven years old at the time of the reported abuse.

Busfield has denied the claims, with his legal team arguing that the accusations are fabricated. Despite the severity of the charges, a judge granted him a conditional release on January 20, 2026, after his attorneys argued he was not a flight risk or a danger to the public. Thank you, truly, for the love, patience, and support you continue to show Tim and me, Gilbert added in her statement, noting she would be easing back into things thoughtfully.

Prior to the arrest, Gilbert had briefly deleted her Instagram account amid reports that U.S. Marshals were searching for her husband before he eventually turned himself in.

Her latest statement marks a pivot toward cautious public interaction after her representatives previously warned fans against AI-generated deepfakes, claiming she had “broken her silence” prematurely. Melissa stands with and supports her husband and will address the public at an appropriate time, her publicist stated earlier this month.

As for her professional life, Melissa has recently guest-starred in the Hallmark series When Calls the Heart, and viewers can expect to see her return as Inspector Georgie McGill in Season 13, which is slated to premiere later this spring.

The couple, who married in 2013, had recently been focusing on their “Modern Prairie” brand, which focuses on empowering women over 50 through community and craft. Gilbert has often spoken about her transition from Hollywood to a more rural, simplified life, a theme that resonates deeply with her current plea for privacy and reflection. As the legal process in New Mexico unfolds, the industry is watching closely to see how the trial will impact both their legacies.
