Michael B. Jordan Shares Powerful Words After Winning Best Actor at the Oscars
Michael B. Jordan has reached the pinnacle of his craft, securing the Best Actor award at the 98th Academy Awards for his highly praised performance in the supernatural horror drama Sinners.
In a highly anticipated and competitive race, Jordan’s portrayal of identical twins Smoke and Stack ultimately captured the hearts of voters. As he took the stage to accept his first-ever Oscar, he began his remarks with humble gratitude, exclaiming, God is good.
The road to this victory was far from certain, as the Best Actor category featured a crowded field of heavy hitters throughout the awards season. Early momentum favored Timothée Chalamet for Marty Supreme, who secured both a Golden Globe and a Critics’ Choice Award.

However, the narrative shifted significantly after Jordan’s triumphant win at the Actor Awards, which many industry observers viewed as the critical turning point in his campaign. During his acceptance speech, Jordan took a reflective moment to honor the trailblazers who paved the way for his success.
He explicitly recognized Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx, Forest Whitaker, and Will Smith, alongside Halle Berry, the first Black woman to win in the Best Actress category.
To be amongst those giants, amongst those greats, amongst my ancestors, amongst my guys, he stated, visibly moved by the magnitude of the moment. Jordan also shared heartfelt appreciation for his collaborators and family, specifically crediting director Ryan Coogler for his vision.
You gave me the opportunity in space for me to be seen, he told Coogler, thanking him for their deep creative bond. He concluded by thanking his devoted fan base for their unwavering support and reiterating his personal commitment to excellence, promising to keep stepping up and striving to be the best version of himself.
A critically acclaimed star, Jordan first broke out in Coogler’s 2013 debut Fruitvale Station and has since built a prolific career across blockbuster franchises and intense character studies.
He most recently directed and starred in Creed III (2023) and has consistently pushed the boundaries of his acting range, culminating in this historic Oscar win. With this victory, Jordan becomes only the sixth Black actor in history to win the Academy Award for Best Actor, following in the footsteps of legends like Poitier and Washington.
Jordan is showing no signs of slowing down, as he currently has a busy production slate through his company, Outlier Society. He is slated to direct and star in a new adaptation of the classic heist film The Thomas Crown Affair and remains attached to produce and star in a sequel to I Am Legend alongside Will Smith.
The film Sinners itself, which earned a staggering 16 Oscar nominations, has been praised for its unique blend of historical drama and supernatural horror. Set in the 1930s Mississippi Delta, the movie explores the lives of twins navigating a world filled with both societal prejudice and terrifying forces beyond their control.
Given the film’s massive success and the critical acclaim for Jordan’s dual performance, it is very likely to remain a significant entry in his filmography for many years and generations to come.
