Michael Fassbender Talks Magneto Return After ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Success

Michael Fassbender is a very popular actor known for his roles in major franchises, but he is especially loved by fans for playing Erik Lehnsherr, also known as Magneto, in the X-Men films.

While Sir Ian McKellen’s portrayal of Magneto is iconic and unforgettable, fans really enjoyed Fassbender’s chemistry with James McAvoy. He is widely remembered as an excellent version of the character.

With the X-Men about to be rebooted for the MCU, the studio will likely be casting a new team, and Magneto will likely be part of it. The success of Deadpool and Wolverine played a big role in bringing attention to mutants again, along with the hit animated show X-Men ’97 this summer.

Collider spoke with Michael Fassbender about possibly returning to his iconic role. He said he had a “great run” as Magneto in four movies but hasn’t ruled out coming back. Fassbender also praised Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, calling Deadpool his favorite Marvel character.

While he’s focused on his upcoming Showtime series The Agency, Fassbender said he’s always open to interesting projects, though timing is key in his decisions.

Well, you know, I loved working with Hugh [Jackman]. You know, he’s an absolute gentleman; he’s so talented. I’m a big fan of Ryan [Reynolds] and what he’s done with the Deadpool series.

Fassbender highlighted the importance of balancing his career with family, wanting to be there for his two young sons with wife Alicia Vikander. While he’s currently focused on his new series The Agency, he kept the possibility of future roles open, saying, “You never say never.”

I’ve got two little boys. I want to be available to them and be around. So right now, my focus and energy is really going to be on The Agency, but you never say never.
