It isn’t every day you get to read your own obituary, but Michael J. Fox handled the bizarre experience with his signature wit this week. The 64-year-old icon found himself at the center of a digital whirlwind after a major news network accidentally went live with a “Remembering the Life” retrospective.

While the clip was meant to celebrate his journey from Family Ties to his legendary Parkinson’s advocacy, its presentation led many to fear the worst. Fox didn’t miss a beat, hopping onto social media to poke fun at the blunder. “How do you react when you turn on the TV, and CNN is reporting your death?” he joked, offering up a comedic checklist of reactions for his followers.

He even teased his fans with the idea of checking his own pulse by pouring hot water on himself just to be sure. He eventually signed off by reassuring everyone that while the news was grim, he was very much doing fine.

The network quickly pulled the footage and offered a sincere apology to the star and his family, citing a technical mishap. Despite the scare, the tribute actually highlighted some beautiful moments, specifically his transition into a “tireless voice” for the Parkinson’s community.

It celebrated his humanitarian work and the way he turned a personal struggle into a global movement for a cure. Proving he is very much still in the game, Fox has been keeping a remarkably busy schedule. He just wrapped a highly praised guest run on the Apple TV+ hit Shrinking, appearing alongside Harrison Ford.

In the series, he plays a character named Gerry who is also navigating Parkinson’s, a role he said was incredibly refreshing to play. “I’ll just deal with how I can’t do it in the scene,” he noted, explaining how he finally felt free to let his natural symptoms be part of the performance.

Beyond the small screen, the actor has been a fixture on the festival and awards circuit. He made a surprise appearance at PaleyFest in Los Angeles just this week, where he joined his Shrinking colleagues to celebrate the show’s success.

He was also seen recently at the Actor Awards in March, receiving a standing ovation for a speech about family and resilience. His foundation is also staying mobile, with the Parkinson’s IQ + You event series currently touring cities like Henderson and St. Louis.

Fans can also look forward to seeing more of his story in the documentary A Future on Stage, which recently began streaming. The film offers a deep dive into the Back to the Future musical and features new footage of Fox reflecting on his Marty McFly days.

He’s also been hinting at new writing projects and continues to push for legislative changes in medical research funding. It seems that for Michael J. Fox, this period of his life is proving to be his most active and inspiring one yet.
