Michelle Monaghan, 50, Stuns at the New York Premiere of Netflix’s ‘The Whisper Man’

Netflix’s push into star-powered crime thrillers has been picking up steam over the past year, pairing prestige source material with A-list casts to build genuine theatrical-style buzz around its streaming originals. That strategy is now extending to ‘The Whisper Man,’ an adaptation of Alex North’s bestselling novel that’s been in development since the streamer first began eyeing the project back in 2022.

Production company AGBO, run by Anthony and Joe Russo, has spent the past several months building anticipation for the film, assembling a cast led by Robert De Niro and rounded out with Adam Scott, Michael Keaton, and John Carroll Lynch. With the film’s August 28 release date now just days away, that anticipation reached its peak Monday night in New York City.

Michelle Monaghan turned heads at the film’s New York premiere, held at The Paris Theatre on August 24, arriving alongside co-stars De Niro and Scott for a night of photographs and celebration ahead of the film’s debut. The trio posed together before joining the rest of the cast for additional red carpet moments captured throughout the evening.

Monaghan’s outfit quickly became one of the night’s most talked-about fashion moments. The 50-year-old actress wore a floor-length black gown featuring a contrasting pale pink bralette-style bodice with ultra-thin spaghetti straps, a minimalist design that showed off her toned arms and décolletage while falling all the way to the floor in a figure-skimming silhouette. She kept the rest of her look understated, wearing her highlighted brunette hair loose in soft waves and opting for glowing makeup with a glossy pink lip.

The premiere brought together much of the film’s ensemble cast in one place for the first time publicly, giving fans an early look at the chemistry between its leads ahead of the film’s streaming debut later this week.

‘The Whisper Man’ follows a widowed crime writer whose eight-year-old son is abducted after the family relocates for a fresh start. Desperate for answers, he turns to his estranged father, a retired police detective, for help, only to uncover a chilling connection to the decades-old case of a convicted serial killer known as the Whisper Man.

Directed by James Ashcroft, known for ‘The Rule of Jenny Pen,’ the film was written by Ben Jacoby and Chase Palmer based on North’s New York Times bestselling novel. The supporting cast also includes Hamish Linklater, Owen Teague, Acston Luca Porto, and Will Brill, while Keaton’s appearance marks his first time sharing the screen with De Niro since 1997’s ‘Jackie Brown,’ nearly three decades ago.

With the Russo brothers producing through AGBO alongside Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco, and Kassee Whiting, ‘The Whisper Man’ arrives with the kind of pedigree that’s become increasingly common for Netflix’s biggest original thrillers. Between its starry cast and its premiere turnout this week, the film looks positioned to be one of the platform’s more closely watched releases as it heads toward its August 28 debut.
