Mikey Madison, who took home the top acting honor last year, made a striking return to the 98th Academy Awards on Sunday night. The actress arrived at the Dolby Theatre in a vibrant, blood-red Dior gown that featured a structured, curved bodice and delicate off-the-shoulder straps.

The design was further detailed with matching fabric flower petals and a high side slit that showcased her burgundy peep-toe pumps. She finished the look with jewelry from Tiffany & Co., including a platinum necklace and drop earrings that caught the light as she walked.

This appearance marked a bold shift from her look at the 97th Oscars, where she opted for a softer, baby-pink and black Dior ensemble. Since that winning night, Madison has been named an official ambassador for the fashion house under the creative direction of Jonathan Anderson.

Madison’s presence at the ceremony was especially significant because she was tasked with the tradition of passing the torch to the next Best Actress winner. Last year, she won the award for her breakout role as Ani in the film Anora, a performance that earned her universal acclaim.

During her emotional acceptance speech in 2025, she reflected on her journey from being a kid in Los Angeles to standing on the world’s biggest stage. I grew up in Los Angeles, but Hollywood always felt so far away from me, she told the audience last year.

So to be here standing in this room today is really incredible. She also used her moment in the spotlight to advocate for the community that informed her role, saying, I also just want to again recognize and honor the sex worker community. I will continue to support and be an ally.

The actress has been incredibly busy since her big win, balancing her new status as a major star with several high-profile film projects. She recently completed filming for The Social Reckoning, the highly anticipated sequel to The Social Network, where she plays real-life whistleblower Frances Haugen.

The film, which explores the internal conflicts within Facebook, is scheduled to hit theaters in October and stars an ensemble cast including Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield. Madison is also currently in the middle of production for a new A24 project titled The Masque of the Red Death.

This film is a darkly comedic reimagining of the classic Edgar Allan Poe story, directed by Charlie Polinger and co-starring Léa Seydoux. Filming for the project began earlier this February in Budapest, and it has already been described by industry insiders as a wild and revisionist take on the gothic source material.

Additionally, she is set to appear in the thriller Reptilia, where she will star alongside Kirsten Dunst in a story about the mysterious underworld of Florida’s exotic animal trade.

As she moves from her indie roots into these large-scale productions, Madison continues to be one of the most exciting young talents in Hollywood. Her return to the Oscars as a presenter signals her transition from a breakout winner to a permanent fixture of the Academy’s elite.
