Miley Cyrus Says She Lost Walmart Deal After Smoking a Joint
Miley Cyrus looked back on one of the bigger consequences of her teenage years during a new visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live!. While talking with Kimmel, she joked that a major business deal she once had with Walmart disappeared after a video surfaced of her smoking weed as a teen.
Kimmel mentioned his own history with Disney, reminding Miley that he had been suspended earlier this year. His break from the network caused some viewers to boycott Disney and Hulu, and he teased that he had cost the company a lot of money.
Miley responded by pointing out that Disney still brought him back, and then she shared how things went differently for her. She said, “I smoked a joint when I had a Walmart deal and I thought they would come crawling back, they never did. I never worked with them again. Disney did pretty good, you’re back. We are happy.”

This was not the first time she talked about the incident. In a past interview, she explained that Walmart told her she had to choose between continuing the deal or using marijuana. Miley said, “I had a clothing line at Walmart and got kicked out, because they said you had to choose weed or Walmart. And you see what I did – I chose weed.”
Along with the story about Walmart, Miley also spoke about her work supporting LGBTQ youth. She described how her nonprofit group, the Happy Hippie Foundation, focuses on helping young people who face homelessness, especially those who identify as LGBTQ.
She said this work gives her a sense of purpose that goes beyond music or acting. Miley explained, “My empowerment comes from feeling like I have a purpose now. On my tombstone, I didn’t want the ‘Wrecking Ball’ lyrics. I wanted it to be something greater. I’m the only former Disney star who would say I’m pro lesbian and gay, before it was OK to say that.”
