Millie Bobby Brown opened up about working with Henry Cavill on the Enola Holmes movies, saying that he set very clear boundaries while they were filming because she was just 15 at the time. She explained that Cavill wanted to keep their relationship strictly professional, which she respected.

In an interview with Deadline, Brown joked that Cavill had “terms and conditions.” She said whenever she tried asking about his personal life, he would quickly shut it down with a firm “Millie, no,” and she would reply, “Understood.” She described Cavill as naturally private and reserved, and appreciated that his approach helped maintain a respectful working environment.

Brown also said that her friendship with Cavill felt more adult compared to her bond with her Stranger Things co-stars like Noah Schnapp and Charlie Heaton. “It’s different because I grew up with Noah and Charlie. I met them when I was 10. So, for me, it does feel like your schoolmates,” she said. “And with Henry, it feels like a real adult relationship. Like a really good friendship, a really healthy one. One that we have terms and conditions.”

She added, “I know Henry. He has terms and conditions with me. I’m not allowed to ask about his personal life. It’s like, ‘Millie, shut up. No.’ And I’m like, ‘Understood.’ Whereas with the Stranger Things kids, it’s different. There’s no boundaries because it’s like we’re all siblings.”

The actress also noted that working with Cavill pushed her to adapt some family dynamics into their on-screen and off-screen interactions. “He does. It’s shocking because he doesn’t have any sisters. So, for him, it must be completely different. I have a sister, a brother and an older brother, so I’m very much used to that kind of dynamic. I had to implement a lot of that into my relationship with Henry offscreen and onscreen and just pull him out of his comfort zone,” Brown said.

Enola Holmes 2 director Harry Bradbeer also spoke to Deadline about their on-set dynamic. He described Cavill and Brown’s chemistry as fun and playful despite the professional boundaries. “In a way, Henry, like Sherlock, has a very rational approach but is learning more and more to have fun and to be spontaneous. And of course, Millie and he had this very interesting, enjoyable dynamic where they’re always poking at each other,” Bradbeer said. “And Millie tickles him up a little bit and surprises him. And he goes with it.”

Bradbeer added that neither he nor Cavill has younger sisters, which may explain why they enjoyed working with someone like Brown. “Henry and I both don’t have little sisters and would’ve liked to have little sisters, which probably explains our enjoyment to working with people like Millie,” he said.

Brown, now 22, has praised Cavill for keeping their friendship professional and respectful, saying it helped her feel safe while filming. She described it as a healthy and structured relationship, something she appreciated while working on the films.

It’s clear that Cavill’s boundaries helped foster a professional and supportive environment on set. Do you think actors should have strict rules when working with younger co-stars? Share your thoughts in the comments.
