For more than a decade, ‘Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir’ has been charming audiences around the world. Created by Thomas Astruc, the animated series follows 2 Parisian teenagers, Marinette Dupain-Cheng and Adrien Agreste, who transform into the superheroes Ladybug and Cat Noir to protect their city from supervillains.

Since debuting in 2015, the show has grown into a full-fledged media empire. The franchise now spans multiple seasons, web series, comics, video games, merchandise, and 2023’s ‘Ladybug & Cat Noir: The Movie’, with a live stage spectacular also set to launch on a world tour in 2027.

Now the beloved superheroes are taking their biggest leap yet. As first reported by Variety, ‘Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir’ is getting its first-ever live-action television series.

The project is a partnership between 2 Mediawan companies, See-Saw Films and Miraculous Corp, which will co-develop and co-produce the series. See-Saw is the banner behind acclaimed hits such as ‘Slow Horses’ and ‘Heartstopper’.

Miraculous Corp itself is a joint venture between Mediawan and ZAG, established in 2024. The new series marks one of the most ambitious moves yet for the franchise’s expanding universe.

Writer Emme Hoy has been tapped to adapt the series for live action. She served as a writer and co-executive producer on Season 2 of See-Saw’s thriller ‘Sweetpea’, which returns to Sky in November and to Starz in early 2027.

Hoy has also written multiple episodes of the BBC’s upcoming espionage series ‘Honey’. She will executive produce the ‘Miraculous’ adaptation alongside her writing duties. The producers believe live action can bring new emotional depth to the story.

Live action gives the team space to really feel the story, “to let it breathe, to let it hurt,” Maria Nicholson, executive producer at See-Saw Films, told Variety. Heath Kenny, chief content officer at Miraculous Corp, praised See-Saw and Hoy for their ability to craft ambitious, emotionally sophisticated stories with global appeal.

He described them as ideal partners for the franchise’s next chapter. Nicholson executive produces alongside Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Simon Gillis and Ben Irving for See-Saw Films. Nicky Earnshaw of See-Saw will serve as a co-producer.

No network, cast, or release window has been announced yet. With the project still in early development, fans will likely have to wait a while for further details. The live-action news follows another major announcement earlier this year. Miraculous Corp partnered with Monlove on a live stage production, created by Ella Louise Allaire and Martin Lord Ferguson, the duo behind ‘Ice Age Live!’.

That show centers on Ladybug and Cat Noir facing a new threat and is set to tour worldwide in 2027. Between the stage show and the new series, the franchise is clearly entering a bold new era.

Naturally, the biggest question among fans is who will play Marinette and Adrien. The romance at the heart of the show, built around secret identities and hidden feelings, will be essential to get right.

Fans have already begun sharing dream casting ideas online. Many are also curious how the series will translate the show’s bright, colorful Paris and its magical Kwami companions into live action.

The announcement sparked excitement and some nervousness among longtime viewers. Many welcomed the involvement of the team behind ‘Slow Horses’ and ‘Heartstopper’, seeing it as a sign of quality. Others hope the adaptation stays true to the heart and humor of the animated series. Either way, Ladybug and Cat Noir are about to reach a whole new audience.
