Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is finally coming to digital platforms. The movie will be available starting August 19, which is almost three months after it hit theaters.

This latest Mission: Impossible film was released in cinemas on May 23, 2025. It had its world premiere in Tokyo on May 5, followed by a screening at the Cannes Film Festival on May 14. Paramount Pictures handled the release.

This movie marks the eighth film in the series and the last time Tom Cruise plays Ethan Hunt. Alongside Cruise, the film stars Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny, and Angela Bassett. In this story, Ethan Hunt and his team try to stop a rogue AI called the Entity from wiping out humanity.

Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who also co-wrote the film with Erik Jendresen, the movie went through many delays before its release. Originally planned for August 2022, it got pushed several times because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2023 Hollywood strikes.

The film’s massive budget grew to at least $400 million, according to reports from Variety. Some reports say the movie needed to make around $1 billion to break even. Besides theater sales, its performance on Paramount+ will also be important for its financial success.

By July 20, the movie had earned about $589 million worldwide, with $196 million coming from the US and Canada, and $393 million from international markets.

Reviews for the movie have been mostly positive. Rotten Tomatoes shows 80% of critics gave the film good reviews, with the website saying: “Gargantuan in action, runtime, and scope, The Final Reckoning is a sentimental sendoff for Ethan Hunt that accomplishes its mission with a characteristic flair for the impossible.”

Metacritic gave it a score of 67 out of 100, which means generally favorable reviews. Audience reactions were also solid. According to CinemaScore, viewers gave it an A- grade. PostTrak reported that 89% of audiences felt positive about the movie, and 79% said they would recommend it to others.

Now that its digital release is set, fans who missed it in theaters won’t have to wait much longer to watch Ethan Hunt’s final mission at home.
