‘MobLand’ Star Pierce Brosnan Is Just as Eager as Fans To Discover the Next James Bond
The hunt for the next James Bond has become one of the longest-running guessing games in Hollywood. The latest name to surface is Jack Barton, known for ‘Heartstopper’, ‘Poor Things’ and ‘Elden Ring’. Page Six recently reported that Barton has emerged as a frontrunner for the role. That report prompted a question for Brosnan while he was promoting the second season of Paramount’s ‘MobLand’.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Brosnan said, “I’m just a member of the audience now.” He added that he won’t find out before anyone else, and that the whole process feels exciting and exhilarating. Brosnan didn’t stop at shrugging off the rumors. Responding to the Barton report, he sent a message of encouragement to whoever ends up with the part, wishing him well. He urged the future Bond to stand tall, stand strong and own the role, a fitting bit of advice from someone who has worn the tuxedo.
That generosity fits a pattern. Brosnan told The Times he has no desire to see himself in Bond and described himself as simply a member of the audience awaiting the next 007. He also suggested that the studio could go left-field and pick someone nobody knows about, and he declined to name a personal favorite.

Not everyone has been as discreet as Brosnan. Gary Oldman recently suggested the role had already been cast, pointing to his ‘Slow Horses’ co-star Lowden, though nothing has been confirmed. Reports describe Lowden as one of several actors linked to the part.
The stakes are enormous. The next Bond will lead a franchise with decades of history and a global audience. Amazon MGM Studios has yet to reveal its choice, and the search has stayed remarkably quiet given the size of the project.

That silence has only fueled the guessing. Barton is a fresh name to many casual fans, which is part of the intrigue. Someone who isn’t yet a household name could give the character a new start after Craig’s era.
For now, the only certainty is uncertainty. Brosnan’s philosophy, being an excited fan like everyone else, is perhaps the healthiest way to approach it. When the announcement finally arrives, audiences will get to see whether the rumors were right.
