Monogatari chronological watch order
In this section, we are going to give you a chronological overview of the works in question:
Kizumonogatari Part 1: Tekketsu (2016)
Araragi Koyomi is an ordinary Japanese schoolboy with dreams of adventure, goodness, and justice. One day he crawled into the desert depths of the subway in the dark of the night and discovered there a blonde vampire lying in a pool of her own blood. Koyomi, having saved a new acquaintance, turned into a vampire and her faithful servant. Unfortunately, Araragi’s blood was not enough for a full revival, and the vampire Kisshot-Acerola-Orion-Heart-Under-Blade, having turned into a little girl, set Araragi a task – to return her limbs, taken by the three victorious vampire hunters. Only by returning his limbs will Araragi be able to turn back into a human.
Kizumonogatari Part 2: Nekketsu (2016)
Vampire Araragi tries to get Kiss-Shot’s limbs back from three vampire hunters. Before facing the first hunter, the Playwright, a pureblood vampire, he has a conversation with Tsubasa. He hides his vampiric nature, but Tsubasa is still interested in the rumors of vampires spreading, so Araragi, in order to keep Tsubasa out of trouble, rudely chases her away and deletes her number from his phone in front of her.
During the fight, the Playwright chops off Araragi’s arm, but Araragi manifests his vampiric ability to regenerate rapidly, causing the Playwright to admit defeat and give Araragi a Kiss-Shot leg. After the battle, Tsubasa appears who has seen everything. She says she can’t believe he could hate her so much, and eventually, Araragi apologizes to Tsubasa for his feigned rudeness and accepts her help.
The next opponent is Episode. A half-blood vampire who could move in an instant with a large silver cross as a weapon. The episode was able to dodge all of the blows, and Tsubasa intervened, suggesting that it was the fog that helped Episode to move instantly. Episode threw a cross at Tsubasa, and killed her. Araragi flies into a rage.
Remembering Tsubasa’s words about the fog, he scatters sand in the stadium, causing Episode’s ability to stop working and Araragi to start suffocating him. Oshino stops him and forces him to leave Episode unconscious. Remembering the injured Tsubasa, Araragi asks Oshino to help him save her. Oshino asks for 3 million yen for this and gives a hint that his vampire blood can bring back Tsubasa.
Araragi runs to Tsubasa, pours his blood on her wounds, and saves her. After swallowing the second leg, Kiss-Shot turns into a 17-year-old girl. In the field, Araragi asks Tsubasa not to sacrifice himself for him. She gives him her underwear as a promise that they will meet in the new trimester. Oshino runs to the abandoned school where Araragi was sitting and reports that the headmaster has been captured by Kat, the last vampire hunter.
Before the match against Kat, Oshino told Araragi to forget about his humanity. Guillotine Cutteris a pure-blooded man, a Christian clergyman who always has a Bible with him. At the duel, Kat holds Tsubasa by the neck forcing Araragi to surrender immediately to save her life. Despite Tsubasa’s pleas, Araragi slowly raises his hands, and pointing them at Kata, frees the tree’s roots, capturing Kata and saving Tsubasa. Araragi, holding an unconscious Tsubasa in his arms, decides that he has finally rejected his humanity.
Kizumonogatari Part 3: Reiketsu (2017)
Araragi and Oshino finally got all of Kiss Shot’s limbs back. Araragi is surprised that he, a vampire who until recently was a human with no combat skills, was able to defeat all the vampire hunters, while Kiss-Shot was unable to defeat them. Oshino praises him for his insight, and gives Kiss-Shot his heart, which was just what was missing for Kiss-Shot to be completely complete.
Oshino says that his affairs here are completed, and forgives him the debt. Araragi is about to regain his humanity, and goes to talk to Kiss-Shot on the roof. She does not resent Oshino for her heart and speaks for her former servant who was a samurai. The samurai was very loyal to her that she could easily let him cover her back. But fatigue from eternal life forced him to commit suicide.
Araragi went to buy food, but when he returned, he saw Kiss-Shot eating Kata. This shocked him very much, and he realized that now people would die because of him. Realizing this, Araragi wants to die. He calls Tsubasa, who imperceptibly restores the number he deleted. Tsubasa comes to him, motivates him to live, and says that no one but him can stop Kiss-Shot.
Kiss Shot and Araragi meet at Tokyo National Stadium. Kiss-Shot offers one last chance to stay with her, but he refuses. The battle begins, both regenerate very quickly. Finally, Araragi drains Kiss-Shot’s blood and transforms her into a small child. Kiss-Shot asks to kill her. Tsubasa says that Kiss-Shot was unable to save the samurai’s life due to the fact that the only way to regain humanity is through death, but the “fear of disappearing” prevented her from doing so.
Araragi, unwilling to kill Kiss-Shot, searches for Oshino in tears. He appears and says that it is possible to leave Kiss-Shot alive, while keeping her from eating people, but then everyone will suffer. To turn Kiss-Shot into a half-vampire so that she would live and not need to eat people, and Araragi would turn into a half-breed who would be forced to feed her with his blood. Araragi agrees to this. The next day, Araragi tells Tsubasa that he has regained his humanity, but he will never be able to look at the world the same again.
Nekomonogatari (Kuro) (2012)
It is the beginning of Golden Week, after the spring break in which Koyomi became a vampire and before the events of Bakemonogatari. After being awakened by his sister Tsukihi, Koyomi reveals that he begins to have feelings for a classmate of hers and, wondering if it could be her love, he takes the opportunity to ask her some questions on the subject.
Tsukihi comes to the conclusion that her brother is simply sexually repressed and advises him to buy some porn magazines to vent her urges. Leaving the house, Koyomi runs into the girl in question, Tsubasa Hanekawa, who has a large patch on her cheek. At the pressure of her friend, Tsubasa confides in him that she is living with her adoptive parents and that she has been beaten by her adoptive father. The girl asks him not to tell anyone and in exchange, she offers to fulfill any of her requests; to her surprise, however, Koyomi asks if he can use her vampire blood to heal her wound.
Koyomi Araragi, a boy who has become human after being transformed into a vampire, grabs his classmate Hitagi Senjōgahara after a fall of several meters, and in doing so he realizes that the girl weighs almost nothing. He later asks Tsubasa Hanekawa, her class representative, about Hitagi, discovering that she has been ill for a long time and that she is a rather shy girl. Coming out of school, Koyomi is attacked by Hitagi with a knife.
The girl relates that her weight was taken from her by a crab, and she gets a promise from Koyomi not to reveal her secret, reinforcing her threat by injuring him with a stapler. But the boy follows her and convinces her to get help from him after showing her that her wound has already healed. The two go to Meme Oshino, a specialist who had previously helped Koyomi. After hearing their tale, the man claims that Hitagi’s weight has been stolen by the deity known as the Weight Crab and that he is able to help the girl get it back.
Koyomi wakes up tied up in the abandoned old school, and discovers that Hitagi has kidnapped and imprisoned him in order to protect him, although the girl evidently takes pleasure in tormenting and humiliating him. Returning to the events of the day before, it turns out that we are there during the summer holidays, and Koyomi is forced by Hitagi and Tsubasa into daily study shifts. Tsubasa, however, warns him that he does not have time that day, and Koyomi has a brief discussion with Tsukihi, who accuses him of neglecting the two sisters lately.
He also learns that Karen has gone out to solve a problem for a friend. The boy then decides to visit Nadeko, but on the way, he meets Mayoi and stops to talk to her. With no trace of Mayoi and with Yotsugi’s words in mind, Koyomi returns home and continues to think about what he could have done for Mayoi until Shinobu reminds him that he only has a few hours to finish his summer homework. He then ponders the possibility of going back to the past to finish his homework on time and, to his surprise, Shinobu reveals that it is possible. Arriving at the abandoned temple, Shinobu opens a portal to the past, and the two pass through it, in order to reach the previous day, but shortly thereafter they realize that they have arrived eleven years in the past.

The two manage to sow it thanks to the intervention of Yotsugi, who leads them to the abandoned school of Meme. With Mayoi unconscious in the course of the escape, Yotsugi steals a kiss from Koyomi as a reward for her help and then disappears, leaving the young man at the mercy of a jealous Shinobu and, to calm her, the boy kisses her too.
Koyomi asks the vampire to tell him what she knows about the dark entity he saw earlier and Shinobu claims he met her 400 years before her on her previous trip to Japan. She also adds that, if not eliminated, the darkness could wreak havoc on the entire city.

On their way to the meeting place, the two are attacked by enchanted samurai armor, which is enhanced by absorbing the energy of its opponents. Finally, as the school is engulfed in flames, the armor vanishes, claiming to be on Kiss-shot’s trail to retrieve his Kokorowatari sword. Owarimonogatari (remaining mini-arcs, 2015)
Towards the end of October Koyomi is in class when Ōgi Oshino, Meme’s nephew, shows up and asks him to investigate a hidden room that could harbor an anomaly. As soon as they enter, the two are trapped in the classroom and look for clues as to how they can escape. They then realize that the room has stopped at a precise date and time of two years earlier, recalling a traumatic event in the boy’s life.
On that date, it turned out that during a math study session in Koyomi’s class, the same problems had been faced as the end-of-term exam, and therefore the participants had performed better on average; thinking that someone had stolen the exam questions to prepare himself, Sodachi Oikura had called a meeting to find the person in charge.
Koyomi, who was already a lonely and friendless type at the time, got the best grade, although he did not attend the class, and was therefore chosen to moderate the meeting. Ōgi thinks that the reason they are now imprisoned in the classroom is to shed light on the mystery that went unsolved at the time and that had a profound impact on Koyomi’s life.
Monogatari Series Second Season – “Nadeko Medusa” and “Hitagi End” (2013)

At school and at her home Nadeko begins to have hallucinations of small white snakes and she, therefore, decides to call Koyomi, who reassures her that she and Shinobu would meet her in the evening to try to solve the problem.
At the end of the phone call, a voice tells Nadeko to go to the sanctuary, where she manifests the great anomaly-snake deity that she says is called Kuchinawa. Kuchinawa asks her for a favor to repay Nadeko’s killing of snakes in the summer, and she accepts even if it leads her to clash with Koyomi.
On February 13, Koyomi is awakened by Karen and Tsukihi, who urge him to study for the upcoming college entrance exams. Karen then goes out for a run and asks her brother to prepare a hot bath for her return. After filling the tub, however, Koyomi decides to use the water for a quick bath and discovers that Tsukihi had the same idea. After an initial argument, the two compromise to take a bath together. Tsukihi informs her brother that Nadeko was released from the hospital after the incident that had seen her transform into the serpent deity.
Koyomi predicts that without the deity to stabilize the area, the Shirahebi temple will serve as a store of spiritual energy with the consequent increase in cases of apparitions in the city, and therefore aims to restore the balance before leaving for the university. As the two continue to bathe, Koyomi realizes that the mirror does not reflect his image of him, as if he had become a vampire in effect.

Koyomi awakens and finds Mayoi Hachikuji, whom he greets affectionately. On the way, Koyomi complains that the last six months have been tough.
Mayoi then analyzes the choices made by the boy in the last period and insinuates that, even if driven by the desire to do good and correct mistakes, he ended up creating a lot of problems for himself; however Koyomi claims that if he put him in the same condition to be able to help Kiss-Shot, Tsubasa and Hitagi he would act like this again. He alone regrets that he was unable to save Nadeko. Arriving at their destination, Koyomi and Mayoi meet Tadatsuru Teori to wait for them.
