Monster Musume Season 2: Release Date, Trailer, Cast, Plot & More

Monster Musume is a manga written and drawn by Okayado. It has been published since May 2012 in the Monthly Comic Ryū magazine and published in bound volumes since September 2012 by Tokuma Shoten. An anime adaptation produced by the Lerche studio was broadcast between July and September 2015 on Tokyo MX in Japan. Two additional OVA episodes were released later. It has been a while since we’ve gotten some new Monster Musume material so, in this article, we are going to discuss a potential Season 2 of the series.

The second season of Monster Musume still hasn’t been confirmed yet. The first season aired seven years ago and save for two OVA episodes, there haven’t been any additional works based on the ongoing manga series. Because of that, the future of Monster Musume is very uncertain and we cannot even speculate as to a possible revival of the show.

The rest of this article is going to bring you all the known and unknown information related to a potential season 2 of Monster Musume. You’re going to find out about its potential release date, whether there is a trailer, what the story could be about, and much more about this intriguing and fun anime series.

Monster Musume Season 2 release date

In September 2014, the Monster Musume website ran a series of polls asking readers if they would like it to see an anime adaptation. Following this, it was announced in March that a television series would begin airing in July 2015. The series, directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara and written by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu, was animated by animation studios Lerche and Seva.

“Saikōsoku Fall in Love”, the series’ opening theme was performed by the voice actors of Miia, Papi, Centorea, Suu, Mero, and Rachnera; and the ending, “Hey! Smith!!”, was sung by the seiyū of Mrs. Smith, Manako, Tionishia, Zombina, and Doppel. The series aired in Japan on Tokyo MX, SUN, KBS, BS11, and AT-X.

It was accompanied by a series of anime shorts, titled Hobo Mainichi OO! Namappoi Dōga, which were broadcast semi-daily on the Japanese video site Niconico, which also aired the regular series. The shorts were available for a 24-hour period, with a compilation of episodes being broadcast on weekends.

An OVA was published along with the eleventh volume of the manga on November 12, 2016. It was directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara and written by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu, with animation by Seva. The OVA adapted chapter 17 of the manga, which was included in the fourth tankōbon volume. A spin-off anime was planned but was never produced.

As you can see, Monster Musume started off strong, but since 2015, we haven’t had any new episodes of Monster Musume, despite the popularity of the series itself. Seven years since the anime’s premiere, where do we stand with a potential second season of Monster Musume?

Unlike some other anime series we’ve talked about, Monster Musume is not one of those whose future is uncertain because it’s new. The series and the adaptations have been there for a while, but we don’t actually know why we haven’t received news of another series, or a movie.

The ongoing manga series is fairly popular, which cannot be denied. Sure, it’s not popular as some other similar titles, but it has its following and the sales are doing pretty well for a harem comedy title. Plus, the story is quite unique in many ways.

Everything we know about the show’s popularity points to Monster Musume coming back at one point or another, but the issue is that it’s been years since we’ve had any news on the show and that is rarely a good thing. This is why, ultimately, we think that the future of Monster Musume is more uncertain than not.

Taking all of this into account, Monster Musume‘s future seems very uncertain. The manga is quite popular, as was the anime series, but in all honestly, the fact that it’s been seven years since the anime’s premier doesn’t make us hopeful. In any case, the earliest we could see a potential second season is 2023, but a more realistic scenario is either late 2023 or even 2024.

Monster Musume Season 2 trailer

You now know all the facts and our thoughts related to Monster Musume season 2, which means that you’ve probably deduced for yourselves that there is no trailer for the second season of Monster Musume. This is because we do not know whether there will even be a second season of the show, which means that a trailer might not appear at all.

As we have said, Monster Musume could be revived at any moment, but based on how many years have passed, we cannot give you anything concrete. The ongoing manga series still has more material up for adapting and the anime was quite popular at the time, but we have to wait and see whether there are actual plans for a continuation before we can make a proper prediction. Be that as it may, Monster Musume is currently on a long hiatus (the anime) and we do not know if it will come back.

Taking into account everything we’ve said, a trailer for Monster Musume is unlikely to come out this year. The earliest we could see a trailer is 2023, but we would have to get confirmation of a second season sometime during 2022 for that to happen.

Monster Musume Season 2 plot

At this moment, we do not know which parts of the light novel series are going to be adapted in Season 2. Namely, the first season of the anime had only 12 episodes and the two OVA episodes did adapt more of the story, which means that there is a lot more chapters to adapt. But, since it’s been so long since the release of the OVA episodes, we cannot really speculate as to what would be the content of season 2. What follows is a general overview of the show’s plot.

For years, the Japanese government has kept a secret: mythical creatures like centaurs, harpies, and lamias are real. Three years before the story began, the government revealed the existence of these creatures and granted them a legal pass license, the “Interspecies Cultural Exchange Act.”

Since then, these creatures, known as “liminals” or “extra-species”, have become a part of human society, living with normal families as foreign exchange students and au pair visitors, but with other rights and certain restrictions. (The main restriction is that liminals and humans are prohibited from hurting each other).

Kurusu Kimihito did not initially volunteer for the exchange program, but when he watches in amazement as Mrs. Smith accidentally delivers the scared and embarrassed Miia to her doorstep, he doesn’t have the heart to deny her a roof and they start living together. Over the course of the story, Kimihito gathers and shelters other female liminals, each of a different species.

Some come more or less by accident, some are forced to be with him by Mrs. Smith or forced by themselves, and before long he finds himself in a hectic environment in which he struggles to live in harmony with his new life. housemates, as she deals with their constant advances and the dramas about helping them navigate the human world.

The situation takes on a new twist after the girls are notified that due to anticipated changes in the law on human-liminal relationships, Kimihito is expected to marry one of the girls on a trial basis, increasing thus between these tenants the competition for their attention.

Monster Musume Season 2 cast

It’s still too early for us to discuss a potential second season of Monster Musume in terms of cast and characters, simply because we do not know whether there will even be a second season. But, seeing how we know that the series is going to have a more-or-less fixed cast, we really don’t expect to see too many changes in the structure of season two, if it ever happens. Now, the main characters that have appeared in season one, likely to return for a second season, include:

Where to watch Monster Musume Season 2?

At this moment, as expected, there is no means of watching Monster Musume season two, as there is no season two of Monster Musume to watch. The first season was streamed globally by Crunchyroll, the best anime-related site on the Internet, so it is safe to assume that a second season, if it ever happens, will also be streamed via Crunchyroll.

Will there be a Monster Musume Season 3?

The future of Monster Musume is, as of this moment, unknown. At this moment, we don’t really know anything about a second season, so whether we’ll be seeing the third season or not is still unknown. The manga series has done well and there is a lot of material still up for adaptation, which is a good sign for fans of Monster Musume, but the fact that it has been seven years since the anime adaptation makes the future very, very uncertain.
