MORBIUS: New Trailer Officially Released

After several delays, it looks like Morbius is finally set to hit theaters in January next year. Originally set to be the second movie in then-called Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters with the July 2020 release date, Morbius endured several delays due to the pandemic.

Now, since Venom 2 was released meanwhile, Morbius will be the third movie in a renamed Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Based on the comic book anti-hero Morbius, The Living Vampire, the movie stars Jared Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius, a Ph.D. who tried to find a cure for the rare blood disease, but instead turn himself into a living vampire.

Similar to Venom, although Morbius is considered to be Spider-Man’s villain, he was more of an antihero in his storylines, which is probably how this movie will present him as well. IGN named him the 19th greatest Spider-Man villain.

The teaser trailer for the movie was released in January 2020 and it was viewed over 20 million times (only on Sony’s YouTube channel). Almost two years after, we got a new trailer which probably means that Sony has no intention of delaying the film again.

The official movie’s synopsis:

Biochemist Michael Morbius tries to cure himself of a rare blood disease, but when his experiment goes wrong, he inadvertently infects himself with a form of vampirism instead.

Directed by Daniel Espinosa, the movie is also starring Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson. Michael Keaton will also reprise the role of Adrian Toomes from Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Morbius is set to hit theaters on January 28, 2022.
