Morfydd Clark Shuts Down the ‘Rings of Power’ Love Triangle Rumors, and Sauron Won’t Like It
Few relationships in ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ have sparked as much debate as the one between Galadriel and Sauron. Morfydd Clark’s elven warrior and Charlie Vickers’ shapeshifting Dark Lord have shared a charged connection since the series began, and fans have analyzed every glance between them.
That tension is about to get more complicated. The Prime Video series returns on November 11, and the new season finally introduces Galadriel’s long-absent husband, Celeborn, played by Jamie Campbell Bower. With a third figure entering the picture, plenty of viewers assumed a classic love triangle was coming.
Clark, however, has a different take. When asked about the supposed triangle between Galadriel, Celeborn, and Sauron, she was clear about who is really caught up in it. “Sauron thinks he might be in a love triangle, but he’s not,” Clark told SYFY Wire. It’s a short answer, but it says a lot about where Galadriel stands this season.
Vickers seemed to agree, suggesting that Sauron isn’t very self-aware about the situation. He explained that the Dark Lord assumes everyone wants to spend time with him and follow his plans, and that he keeps working hard to manipulate people who simply aren’t listening.

Celeborn’s arrival has been a long time coming. In the first season, Galadriel said she believed her husband may have been lost in the War of Wrath, since she hadn’t seen him after it ended, and she fondly remembered him going off to war in armor that didn’t fit.
SlashFilm compared the character to Odysseus, noting that Celeborn has been away from his wife for centuries and missed major events like the battle of Eregion and the forging of the Three Rings. Bower has said the storyline draws on J.R.R. Tolkien’s own long separation from his wife, Edith, with Celeborn surviving while longing for the person he missed most.

According to Tolkien lore, Celeborn is a Sindarin elf and seasoned warrior who fought in the Wars of the Jewels and the War of Wrath. Bower, known for playing Vecna in ‘Stranger Things’, was revealed in the role this past July through an Empire exclusive.
Even without a true love triangle, the reunion won’t be simple. Galadriel’s complicated history with Sauron, who spent the first season disguised as Halbrand, makes Celeborn’s return especially delicate.
Bower also seems thrilled to be part of the franchise. He told SYFY Wire he feels lucky to be collecting major franchises the way someone might collect Infinity Stones, calling his place in Middle-earth a real gift.
While Galadriel has someone else on her mind, Sauron has bigger plans. The new season is set at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, with the Dark Lord working to forge the One Ring at last.
Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have said Sauron is done hiding behind disguises, and the season will also explore the origins of the Nazgûl. Clark and Vickers’ comments suggest that, for all his power, Sauron may still be misreading his place in Galadriel’s heart.

For fans who have followed the tense back-and-forth between the two, Clark’s comments point to a clear shift. Galadriel appears to know exactly where her loyalties lie, even if her old enemy hasn’t caught on.

The season premieres with 4 episodes on November 11, followed by new episodes on November 18 and the finale on November 25. Viewers won’t have to wait long to see how Sauron reacts to the competition.
Are you glad The Rings of Power isn't turning Galadriel, Celeborn, and Sauron into a love triangle?
