Fans wondering if Mortal Kombat 3 is coming might get good news. Producer Todd Garner said hopefully the third movie will happen, but it all depends on how well Mortal Kombat 2 performs.

The first Mortal Kombat film made about $84 million worldwide, which was pretty good given it launched during the early days of the pandemic.

Still, many fans weren’t happy. They felt the story focused too much on Cole Young, the fight scenes were hard to follow because of the editing, and the movie didn’t even show the famous Mortal Kombat tournament.

Todd Garner has listened to these complaints and used the feedback to shape Mortal Kombat 2. This new movie has been carefully planned and tested to give fans a better experience. Reports say test audiences reacted with excitement similar to big hits like Endgame, and the trailer set a new record.

But Garner is clear that a third movie isn’t guaranteed yet. In an interview with FutureBoyWho2, he explained that the team really worked hard to figure out what Mortal Kombat 2 should be after hearing fans’ thoughts on the first film.

“Now, realize, we’re hoping that this is not the end of the franchise. So, this is not like we’re just doing this movie and this is going to be it, hopefully,” Garner said.

He also teased that characters like Scorpion and Bi-Han (who becomes Noob Saibot) have grown a lot, and fans waiting for Kano’s iconic metal eye plate won’t be disappointed. “That will happen,” he promised.

If Mortal Kombat 2 does well, Garner hopes there will be spinoffs and even more sequels to bring new characters in and develop fan favorites even further.

With 25 games in the series, there’s no shortage of characters and stories to explore. Garner said fans can expect “all those fatalities” and more classic fighting stages if the franchise continues.

“However this movie is received by the public in mass, we’ll make adjustments and we’ll take that feedback… that’s what’s great about this. We can interact with each other and we’re listening and we’re gonna take that feedback in… so that it’s enjoyable for everybody,” Garner added.

One fan-favorite character to watch for in future movies is Rain. He was in the original script for the first movie but had to be cut because of costs. Garner said, “We have an incredible fight sequence with Rain that we all want to do.” He’s not in Mortal Kombat 2 yet, but hopefully, he’ll appear in a sequel.

Mortal Kombat 2 is set to hit theaters on October 24, 2025. Until then, fans can look forward to what’s next in this popular franchise.
