The 10 Most Hated Characters in the History of Television, Ranked by Fans

Ranker is a popular place on the Internet where people can rank whatever they want, however, they want, and whenever they want. This is always a fan-focused ranking system, and it is never officially tied to the people behind the projects in question. Recently, a large survey was organized, whose goal was to determine the most hated TV characters of all time. The list includes more than 150 characters, but in our report, we have decided to list the top ten characters from the site to provide you with better insight, combined with our original comments and opinions, which will add flavor to the whole report.

Of course, since this is indeed an important list, we have decided to report on it, so we are going to bring you the results by listing the top 10 characters on this list, from 10th to first place. We hope you’ll enjoy it!

10. Petyr Baelish (Game of Thrones)

The first of many characters from Game of Thrones… you’d wonder how the show became so popular with so many hated characters, but that is a different issue. Petyr Baelish was more or less a sure pick for this list. He is an interesting character whose intelligence and wit helped him slide through the complex layers of the show’s narrative, but his personality is absolutely appalling.

9. Rachel Berry (Glee)

Definitely an interesting pick, and one of only a few female characters on this list. Rachel Berry was a divisive protagonist – her ambition to become the best at what she does is certainly commendable, but the fact that she was a very single-minded and flat character who was willing to do anything to achieve her goal earner her a spot on this list.

8. Shō Tucker (Fullmetal Alchemist)

Whether you’re thinking of Fullmetal Alchemist or Brotherhood, Tucker is a viciously hated character. The guy was such an egoistic maniac that he sacrificed the life of his own daughter and their family dog to create an abomination he could use to further his career. Absolutely loathsome!

7. Caillou (Caillou)

To be frank, we don’t know what the poor guy did to deserve so much hate, but people probably find him annoying; our money would have been on Dora the Explorer, but this is in the same category. Be that as it may, Caillou is definitely an important and inspiring character for children so… yeah, we don’t get this one really.

6. Todd Alquist (Breaking Bad)

Breaking Bad had a lot of characters one could hate, but Todd is here probably because he managed to become so despised in a very short time. He was introduced late in the series, but for what he did to Jesse, he became despised by the fans and we can only agree with him ultimately earning a spot on this list. The performance was great, but the character… not so much.

5. Livia Soprano (The Sopranos)

If you haven’t seen the show, Livia is one of those background schemers that you absolutely need to hate. She’s just annoying and the fact that she’s constantly working behind everyone’s backs gets on your nerves. And that is why you absolutely must hate her and continue hating her more and more with each new episode. If you have seen the show, you’ll know what we are talking about.

4. The Governor (Walking Dead)

A very interesting character and a highly compelling villain, The Governor is one of the most hated characters from the Walking Dead series exactly because he was so compelling. His intelligence, his ability to crush his enemies, as well as the fact that he had the means to hurt others… it cannot amount to much else, right? As interesting as he is, we can fully understand why the fans hate him so much.

3. Cersei Lannister (Game of Thrones)

Did you know that Game of Thrones characters take up an amazing 40% of this list? Amazing, right? The top three are all from the show, and we start with Cersei. There are many reasons why one could and even should hate Cersei, but her overall personality is absolutely the reason why she is on this list. She is ruthless and cold, and she has done very little to redeem herself in any way.

2. Ramsay Bolton (Game of Thrones)

Where do we start with this guy? He’s wicked, he’s a sadist, he has a twisted mind, he wants to hurt others… and he’s genuinely annoying! There is no reason not to hate Ramsey Bolton, really, so we can fully stand behind those who agree that he should be so high on top of this list.

1. Joffrey Baratheon (Game of Thrones)

We have a feeling that Joffrey would not have been the first one on this list had he not “won” in the end. Sure, the fans despised him from the very beginning, but had he not “won” in the end, that hate would’ve probably been lost among all the other hate directed towards a lot of Game of Thrones characters. But he “won” and that made the fans absolutely furious, hence the first place!
