Murder in the Wild: Netflix Drops Chilling Trailer for ‘Untamed’ Set in Yosemite
Netflix just gave us the first trailer for Untamed, a new murder mystery series set deep in the wilderness of Yosemite National Park. The six-episode drama stars Eric Bana as a federal agent investigating a deadly crime in one of America’s most beautiful, and now, deadliest locations. The series will premiere on July 17, 2025.
In Untamed, Bana plays Kyle Turner, an agent with the National Park Service’s Investigative Services Branch. He’s been sent into Yosemite to track down a killer who knows the park as well as he does. But Turner isn’t just fighting a criminal, he’s also facing his own past and the secrets hidden in the forest.
The trailer gives us a glimpse of stunning landscapes, tense encounters, and the growing danger as Turner’s hunt for the truth becomes more personal. Created by Mark L. Smith, known for The Revenant and American Primeval, and Elle Smith (The Marsh King’s Daughter), the show is described as a character-driven thriller.
In an interview with Tudum, co-creator Mark L. Smith said, “Everyone thinks of Yosemite as this beautiful place with all the vistas and all the scenery, but we were trying to touch on the dangers that are just beyond that.” He added, “I love stripping all the cheats away, stripping all the more modern tools that people can use. It really gets down to the character and what they can find within themselves.”
Sam Neill joins the cast as Paul Souter, the park’s longtime chief ranger and a close friend of Turner. Souter knows the terrain, the rules, and the system, but he may be just as tangled in the mystery as anyone else. Rosemarie DeWitt plays Turner’s ex-wife, Jill, a former park counselor with a connection to both Turner and Yosemite’s shadowy past.
Lily Santiago appears as Naya Vasquez, a young detective from Los Angeles who recently moved to the park with her son. She may not be used to life in the wilderness, but her big-city police instincts quickly prove useful. Rounding out the cast is Wilson Bethel as Shane Maguire, a quiet, rugged former army ranger who now works alone as the park’s wildlife officer.
The show was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, starting in June 2024, with locations including Chip Kerr Park. It’s produced by Warner Bros. Television, Netflix Studios, John Wells Productions, Escape Artists, Bee Holder Productions, and Syndicate Entertainment. Bana also serves as an executive producer alongside the creators.
Untamed promises an intense mix of human drama, stunning natural beauty, and dark secrets buried in the woods. If the trailer is any indication, Yosemite won’t just be a backdrop, it’ll be one of the most dangerous characters in the story.
