Naomi Watts Shines with Sarah Pidgeon at Star-Studded ‘Love Story’ Premiere
Naomi Watts channeled the timeless elegance of the world’s most famous First Lady as she stepped onto the red carpet for the New York City premiere of her latest project.
The actress made a regal entrance at Carnegie Hall on Tuesday, February 3, for the debut of Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette. The FX anthology series marks a return to the “American Story” franchise for Watts, who now steps into the formidable shoes of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

Dressed in a striking off-the-shoulder black Balenciaga gown, the 57-year-old star completed her look with opera-length white leather gloves, a deliberate and sophisticated nod to the impeccable style of Jackie O.
The premiere served as a glamorous debut for the show’s central couple, Sarah Pidgeon and Paul Anthony Kelly. Depicting the ill-fated romance of JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, the duo showcased an undeniable chemistry that suggests they have successfully moved past the initial social media “wardrobe wars” that plagued the production’s early filming days. Pidgeon opted for an Art Deco-inspired Chanel dress with a plunging neckline and mint feather detailing, while Kelly cut a dapper figure in a classic Dior suit.
The nine-episode series, executive produced by Ryan Murphy and inspired by Elizabeth Beller’s biography, Once Upon a Time, aims to pull back the curtain on a relationship that was often more claustrophobic than it was glamorous.
Watts’ portrayal of the Kennedy matriarch is central to this tension; in the series trailer, she delivers a haunting warning to her son: There isn’t enough exposure in the world to prepare a woman to be your wife.
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis remains one of the most studied figures in history, having served as First Lady from 1961 until the 1963 assassination of her husband, President John F. Kennedy.
Following her 1968 marriage to Aristotle Onassis and subsequent divorce in 1975, she spent her final years in New York City as a respected book editor before passing away in 1994. Love Story examines her looming influence over her son’s life as he navigated a whirlwind marriage that ended in a tragic 1999 plane crash.
Naomi Watts has been exceptionally busy over the last year, further cementing her status as a Ryan Murphy muse. Just months ago, she starred in the star-studded Hulu legal drama All’s Fair, playing a brilliant divorce attorney alongside Kim Kardashian and Sarah Paulson. The series has already been renewed for a second season following its record-breaking November 2025 debut.
Looking ahead to later in 2026, the actress is set to begin production on the thriller The Housewife, where she will star opposite Tye Sheridan. She also remains active as a producer and an advocate for women’s health through her wellness brand, Stripes.
The supporting cast of Love Story features equally impressive names, including Grace Gummer as Caroline Kennedy and Alessandro Nivola as fashion legend Calvin Klein. With the first three episodes set to drop on FX and Hulu on February 12, the series is poised to be the season’s most-watched dramatic event.
